My neighbor in my duplex just told me she has Covid.

And that masks have been proven scientifically to make NO difference.

OMG OMG OMG OMFG

She has had it for a week and was down with the symptoms over the weekend.

And she is outside walking up and down the block today with her 8 year old daughter maskless.

I am fairly confident there is not enough air flow through the common attic to be a problem, but still.

When will the madness end?

6. We have separate HVAC systems.

We have central air and heat, she just has heat and window air units.

Ours was remodeled and upgraded when we moved in last summer and upgrade. The only connection is through the attic crawlspace, and it is pretty well blocked off, the hatch being in a closet I never open.

We are not that close, usually converse on the front porches which are about 12 feet apart, and being winter in Pittsburgh not outside much at all.

Just the point that she has bought into the Right Wing Nutzo spin that masks are useless is frightening. She seems otherwise sane, but I guess these times eventually expose the stupid everywhere.

3. If she has only had symptoms for a week she should still be under quarantine.

I would drop a dime with your local health department. She is a menace.

9. I know. She said she had her test last Tuesday,

and became symptomatic on Saturday.

She cares for her elderly parents too, and babysits for crying out loud - she had another child over last night.

I know because the brick wall does let sound pass. 8 year old's are not quiet when they play.

The willful stupidity just astounds me.

4. There is no fire wall in the common attic between units?

Unless the building is very old, there should be.

7. I honestly can't say. Never been up in it.

The wall between us is cinderblock and brick - it is an older brick building, being built in the 1940's or 1950's if I had to guess.

inclined to think that the wall goes all the way to the roof. When you get around to it, you should have someone pop their head up and look. Without a fire wall there also an increased theft risk, which should cause you to secure your attic access. And maybe a need for fire rated insulation.

We lease.

I will have a look see now - have to clean out the closet first so I can get access to the attic hatch - it does have a bar lock on it.

Thanks!

12. Ahhh. Well whoever put the lock on may have known something.

If it was built as a rental unit there may be no firewall. Still, it might be good to at least *know* even if you can’t do anything about it.
