(29,369 posts)I know many of TLP guys have done some pretty loathsome stuff in the past.
In the past.
AOC is working with them now.
NOW.
I do not care right now -- they want the Nazis out, that is all I care about now.

(127,350 posts)The members of TLP are not asking for forgiveness and they do not appear to be formulating any policy proposals for the Biden administration to follow. They are working to rid the extremist elements that enabled the Trump regime and get Democrats elected so I have difficulty understanding the vendetta that we have observed over the past few months.

(5,722 posts)many to most of dem policies, but are singularly focused on democracy and destroying Trumpism. Theyd love nothing more than feeling free to get back in the mud with us on policies and I for one cant wait.
I have a good friend who is a conservative never-Trumper, and is as anguished as we are about it. I told her - we are suffering equally with the horror of what were enduring, but you have it tougher. I havent lost my home, my party, while youre left wandering the streets. She agreed.
Their fight for democracy means working hard for our success, which means also our policies they dont agree with. What could be more admirable and country-first than that?

It's always curious. Which victims we value and which we do not, because it's politically convenient.

(127,350 posts)The OP dug nearly 6 years back into the past. It looks like you are digging nearly two decades in the past to try and make a point. People change and the more thoughtful of them try to atone and make amends for their faults. Some people have the capacity to forgive while others lack that ability--I consider myself to be in the former group rather than the latter. YMMV
Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)That's a big one for me. Hating Trump is not absolution. Bush and Cheney hate Trump. When do we give them their pass?
John Weaver is an accused sexual assaulter.
TLP had very little effect on the election. We do not need them. And we certainly do not need to be promoting or praising them. All they're interested in are Democratic dollars as they try to regain the place in the Republican establishment that Trump displaced them from.
Hard pass.

(127,350 posts)However, it appears that you are in the minority based upon the responses in this thread. Maybe melman will post another thread about Rick Wilson and/or TLP?
By the way, this is the second time that you have used the word "accused". Anyone can make accusations. The challenge comes in proving those accusations.

They're awful Republicans to the core. Trump messed with their gravy train and that is all. And yet, from some quarters, they earn leeway that progressives do not. It's very odd to me, as a liberal Democrat. Very odd.

(67,782 posts)....several months ago Joe Biden was accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Do you think he should not have been our nominee and now our President in 5 days. Of course we know those accusations were false.
So what was the outcome of those accusations against Rick Wilson, anything?

(11,767 posts)I understand that there is a reluctance to accept with open arms and no scrutiny, the presence of Republicans who prior to Trump, were right in there trying to establish conservative domination.
I personally think it is too much to pick at a generic Tweet from one person to a former colleague.
I would be more concerned if Wilson was still buddy buddy with Gaetz. A LOT has happened in 5 years.
George II
(67,782 posts)BTW, at the time of that tweet from Rick Wilson, Matt Gaetz was an unknown. I seriously doubt that he'd say anything even close to that today.

(14,374 posts)Rick Wilson is not a time traveler and was a Republican then. That was an entirely different world back then.

(3,748 posts)He may go back to being a Republican later on, too. But for now, he and TLP are working hard to dismantle trump and this virus that is taking over our political landscape. Considering they are pretty damn good at what they are doing, Id just as well take their help and appreciate it for what it is. Good grief. Life isnt always neat and tidy. Move on...

(7,681 posts)This is just a fact. Schmidt has renounced the Republican party but Wilson has not.
Vivienne235729
(3,748 posts)The real focus right now. He can call himself a libertarian or independent or whatever he wants. It doesnt matter. Theyre just labels. Id take what hes doing right now any day over Democrats who carry water for the RW smear machine. The proof is in the pudding. He and TLP do good work taking down authoritarianism. Lets celebrate that...no matter what he calls himself.

I'm extremely happy with what The Lincoln Project, Rick Wilson, Steve Schmidt and all the others did during the general election campaign and the runoff elections in Georgia.
Throw in Republican Veterans against Trump and The MeidasTouch, too. They all contributed to President Biden's win and our majority in the Senate.

Former Republican strategist Rick Wilson explains on "Salon Talks how Donald Trump killed the GOP and why it caused him to leave the party for good. According to Wilson, the Republican Party was once held together by three types of conservatives: individual liberty, social and fiscal conservatives, but Trump helped "burn it all down".

(20,049 posts)Now he's working to take him down. I'm good with that.
These are exceptional times in need of exceptional measures. As is evident by Wilson now handing the hard right their asses on a daily basis.
There's zero harm in letting him do his thing. We get to sit back and watch him turn his skills on his own. It's a thing of beauty.
