If North Dakota were to secede from the United States, it would be a nuclear power with the worlds fifth-largest nuclear arsenal.

(17,802 posts)That includes all military assets and federal lands. Plus, a state can't just secede on its own. It requires congressional approval and likely a constitutional amendment.
Add to that the nuclear arsenal is NOT under state control. It is under control of the dod and the dept of energy, and they can't just seize it and self launch anything.
Sorry, that is just a declaration of civil war, and one that is not likely to end well for the politicians who vote for it.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
