https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9147287/amp/Red-Sox-legend-Curt-Schilling-says-insurance-CANCELED-wake-tweets-Capitol-riot.htmlSchilling tweeted: 'We will be just fine, but wanted to let Americans know that @AIGinsurance canceled our insurance due to my 'Social Media profile''
He had last week said rioters started 'confrontation for sh*t that matters'
After some followers questioned his claims about AIG Tuesday, Schilling replied with a screenshot of his alleged correspondence with the company
The screenshot read that canceling Schilling's insurance plan was 'a management decision that was made collectively and could not be overturned'
More at link. Good for AIG!

(6,854 posts)Underwriters have to think in terms of "Could this possible lead to a lawsuit?" You would be amazed by some of the things they have to consider (I say "they" not "we" being now retired.) I would definitely not want to cover his home - the personal injury lawsuits which a homeowners policy covers - every tort you can think of and more that you can't or may never have heard of. And the way these yahoos have used automobiles to kill and maim people, not one of them should be able to get an auto policy.
Curt may be a legend. So is the Kraken.

(3,427 posts)If it's true that they cancelled his insurance, it was probably for some other legitimate reason, and then he lied and said it was because of his "social media profile."

(12,649 posts)Most insurance policies will cancel only if you don't pay. Can't be life, retirement, auto, home, or any other sort of insurance.
Now if this was some sort of professional speaker's insurance or event insurance, they will cancel if you are a potential liability for being a total asshole tool that will get sued, arrested, or get people hurt - which will end up in you being sued or arrested.
Free market business sense - who wants to give you million dollar liability coverage if you're going to use your covered activity to promote an insurgency.
"Hello Jeremy from AIG, I need to cover my speaker's liability protection for the "Take back your White Cracker Ass Privilege Drinking and Shooting Competition" I've been invited to speak at in DC next week."...
"What do you mean, you aren't sure you can cover it? Why not? it's protected under both the First and Second Amendment. " ....
"No, it won't be like last week, no real American is going to get hurt at this event - these are white people, not Antifa, after all." ....
"Hey, I'm Curt Shilling, you know, the spokesman! I'm telling you, there won't be any problems at all. The real people are going to be there, not terrorists and anarchists..."...
"No, you are going to give me that liability protection, or I'm going to your supervisor...okay, fine, put him on..."
"Idiot, do you know who you're talking to? Patch me into (name of AIG VP Schilling knows), he'll tell you to give me that policy"...
And then, because liability AIG can incur is way too high for that event, and he's too much of right wing asshole, they cancel his speaker's coverage certificate. Hand of the Free Market in action.

(11,085 posts)You have the right to freedom of belief, but so do OTHER PEOPLE.
So you have the right to spew stupid nonsense, but they have the right to think you are a stupid idiot and to call you a stupid idiot.
The freedom to do something does not mean there are no consequences for doing it.
