This officer was in the middle of the Capitol riots.
Watch until the end.

(7,484 posts)Yes there might have been a few who were sympathetic but the great majority were trying to do their jobs, and did the in a heroic way, as we are finding out the more we learn. Another officer said the rioters thought the police were going to join them and found out they were wrong.

(30,613 posts)The more video we see, the more I am amazed that they were able to expel the terrorists at all. These people deserve a parade and medals.

(7,484 posts)As one said, it was 30 of us against 15,000 of them. After seeing what they did to cops, can you imagine what these insane thugs would have done to Democratic congress people. The police saved lives.

(45,380 posts)MPD had to stand by and wasn't authorized to go in until the very end. So it was a bad situation by the time these guys got there.
The Capitol Police are going to go through a very thorough congressional investigation and a lot of them have already been fired or resigned for their role in this.

With more to come as Tim Ryan continues his investigation

(7,484 posts)After you claimed A LOT were fired or resigned. Out of a force of 2500 none have been fired, two suspended and 10 under investigation. Nowhere near a lot and your firing claim was false.
In fact a lot acted heroically.

(7,484 posts)You made a claim that was proven false. Adding three resignations does not make it anywhere near the truth. Continuing to argue a point when your claim was proven false is the kind of thing the other side does. Just say 'ok there weren't lots fired or resigned. Three resigned and none fired and my claim was wrong.' You can't ask the other side to admit false claims if you won't do it.
The majority of the Capitol Police involved acted with great courage. To claim otherwise using falsehoods is pretty disgusting. Hope that was calm enough for you.

This latest nonsense brought to you pre-emptively to head off some similar stupidity you're bound to hear from right wing dipshits.

(6,265 posts)everything he experienced was probably harrowing, yet that tat on the side of his neck...I had someone explain that one to me earlier in my years of watching white supremacists start trying to take over the government. Although I asked about one I had seen on the elbow of white supremacists...a spider web with the black spade...I know what it means and yeah I understand why he did not want to shoot anyone attacking him.

(28,756 posts)i am hopeful that the same people whose humanity kicked in during that moment will be staying home from now on, and the crowds will be much smaller, limited to murderous militia and the like. easier to control basically. more inclined to take a hint from how heavily guarded DC is right now and to make better choices.
every time i breathe a sigh of relief another moment or another day of high anxiety dogs me. i'm so worried about Joe Biden and so, so tired of the drama and the trauma FFS.

(6,144 posts)It tends to carry people away and results in the mob doing things that many of the people in the mob would never do.
This cop is just lucky that some of the members of the mob were able to disconnect enough from the mob consciousness to realize that he could be killed and decide to protect him, rather than be that mob.
He's very lucky to be alive today.
He summed it up perfectly.

(14,557 posts)breathed a real sigh of relief that we are about to have an actual president who cares about us, wants to govern, and knows how to do it.
Like this officer, we must never, ever, take this republic for granted. As Biden said last night, we have a pandemic crisis and an economic crisis, and he is introducing an aggressive plan to get the pandemic under control, provide some relief to hurting Americans, and then get the economy on the path to recovery.
There is a third crisis - insurrection. These people need to be hunted down, and any help then got from inside law enforcement and national security brought to light. This can never happen again.
I was mindful last night of Jackson Square in New Orleans. Once, in the way-back-when, I lost a $1 bet there to a busker who told me he could tell me where I 'got my shoes.' But there is a statue there of Andrew Jackson - Old Hickory - a genocidal maniac. He is mounted on a rearing steed and waving his hat.
On the base of the statue is inscribed, "THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED." That was carved into its base by Union troops after they had fought their way through the South and crushed the first racist insurrection.
So, yeah, that cop is right - fuck those people for being there. Traitors and insurrectionists.
