They will lie to the very end, even if it costs you your life. Such a fitting summation of the Trump administrations incompetence, grift & failure.

WaPo: When HHS Sec. Azar said this week that the federal government would begin releasing coronavirus vaccine doses held in reserve for second shots, no such reserve existed, according to state and federal officials briefed on distribution plans.

(18,359 posts)I mean what Trump pulled is Aaron Burr level stuff, and he at least had some good traits. I am trying to find another analogy.

(41,634 posts)It never occurred to me until I read this in your comment. The only difference is that Burr was a somewhat likable guy, he had a few worthwhile abilities. Chump is a total loss, and a malignant narcissist to boot.

Of course they argued with me which lead 3 of them placing $100 bets with me trump was gonna win reelection.

Meowmee
(9,212 posts)You will still have some immunity from one dose but not the full immunity.
Irish_Dem
(81,266 posts)I wonder if the first and second dose can be space further apart?
Hugin
(37,848 posts)Could result in an antibody resistant variant of the COVID virus.
WhiteTara
(31,260 posts)we could vaccinate our way to a more deadly virus.
Hugin
(37,848 posts)of the reserves as single dose vaccinations.
But, now... Well, it turns out there are no reserves. So, moot. He's going to kill us all.
:shrugies:
WhiteTara
(31,260 posts)and trust a second dose is coming soon? Or sit home and wait for the stocks to build up for the necessary second dose.
Hugin
(37,848 posts)But, since we're once again under Trump YOYO.
I plan on getting the single dose of vaccine (because, it will confer some immunity), if I get the chance and continue to wear a damn mask and follow the guidelines and get a second dose when it's available to me. Ultimately, I will continue to follow the guidelines until some national authority sounds the All's Clear.
How's that sound? Like a plan?
WhiteTara
(31,260 posts)I think the main thing is to self isolate. I am signed up for the Pfizer vaccine here and have been told that it will be in March. A full year inside my home and no end in sight. But I'd rather self isolate than ventilate.
Hugin
(37,848 posts)I'm sorry. That made me smile. These are hard times when a bit of wisdom in a saying can do that.

(81,266 posts)It's kind of moot now that there are no reserves to use as single dose vaccine.
Nice knowing you.

(37,848 posts)An even better plan.
It could result in poor immunity but not resistant strains at least from what we understand about this type of vaccine. Its not like antibiotics.
Hugin
(37,848 posts)So, at this point I don't think it's settled science.

(9,212 posts)If it prevents severe cases and in some cases more spread. It is possible, we dont have the data yet to prove it. I have been told by rescue groups that even one rabies vacc for an outdoor cat can give them many years of immunity. Of course it is a different virus and vaccine.
Disaffected
(6,403 posts)although the idea is controversial. Anyhow, that's what's being done is several Canadian provinces. The second doses will be given as more supplies become available. Meanwhile, twice as many folks receive at least partial immunization which is very important considering how drastic the situation has become in some locals.

(18,359 posts)She is a nurse. The second one laid her out for day and a half. I definitely feel relieved since she still mostly lives at home (she has a perfectly good condo three blocks from us but whatever). My older daughter wears a mask around us all the time and she keeps her distance.
russiamommy
(276 posts)I believe what they meant was that the CDC has changed its guidance to allow the states to use all the doses distributed, as opposed to telling them to reserve enough for second doses. But the new guidance will not be effective until after Biden takes office. This is also Bidens plan. I dont believe the Federal government or the manufacturers are physically holding reserves, but I may be wrong. The real issue is the distribution in the states - due largely to not having a national plan and failing to fund the implementation plans. It all needs to be fixed. This link gives the numbers. They need to start by getting the millions of doses that are sitting on shelves in capitals distributed.

(51,268 posts)I don't envy the Biden administration for the enormous mess they have to fix. It's going to be a while.
So I would keep wearing a mask around people long after others claim the pandemic is over because they got a half dose of the vaccine or whatever.

(12,533 posts)The grammar may be questionable but frankly it fits the subject.
Trump's pre-election shtick was all anyone needed to understand how opportunistic and shallow the man was/is. And for those still making excuses for Trump and his incompetent, malicious enablers, January 6th was the end of the line for rational players.
Is it any wonder Trump and his 'best' people screwed up the Covid response and now the vaccine distribution? They lied. They schemed. They lied again and again and again.
Because. They. Don't. Care.
Nothing moves them beyond their own power and financial well-being.
They are the enemy within. Time to treat them accordingly!
