(32,334 posts)Seriesly, you do realize that Biden is floating a big picture discussion which will go through a House/Senate negotiation on what the debt forgiveness plan details are that will become law, right?

Why do home-owners get tax breaks that renters don't?
The government wants to incentivise certain things (higher education, home-ownership, population replacement). There's nothing inherently wrong with a bill that doesn't apply to everyone as long as it's balanced out by other programmes.
Biden is also proposing $1.9 trillion in stimulus spending including increased unemployment benefits, bail outs for small businesses, etc. It's not like people who didn't go to college aren't going to benefit somewhere in there.

(4,188 posts)With its fractional approval rate, and enforce the god damn policy like bush intended- 10 years of service and ten years of on time payments and you get it wiped out. I had 18 years of in time payments and 22 years of public service and got ZERO credit..and they fucking raised my payment for even applying for the program....The people who decide whether or not you meet the guidelines, get a cut of the money you are paying back. Class action lawsuit PLEASE!!! Someone......

(1,430 posts)I adore Elizabeth Warren, but the $50,000 probably cost her the election. Biden won. We need a lot of things. $10,000 is the right amount.

(4,380 posts)we would be lucky for $10,000.
Instead of a lump sum, I think it should be a percentage of the persons debt. 10%, 15%, 20%, pick a percent.
Exceptions: Doctors, nurses, teachers, they should have it all taken care of.
People that spent a fortune so they can figure out how to bake brownies or some other useless, minimal paying field shouldn't get shit.
