17. Troy, NH police chief among Granite Staters at D.C. rally
Sat Jan 16, 2021, 02:33 PM
Jan 2021

Troy Police Chief David Ellis, who was among the Granite Staters at Wednesday’s political rally-turned-riot at the U.S. Capitol, condemned the mob violence.

Ellis was quoted in New York Magazine coverage as one of the few attendees of President Donald Trump’s rally who was critical of the attack on the Capitol building.

Ellis told the magazine he was troubled by the violence against police and said it is not representative of the pro-Trump movement.

“There’s a lot of Trump supporters that are awesome people,” he told New York Magazine. “Like me.”

In Troy, Thackston said Ellis’ presence at the rally doesn’t disqualify him from continuing as police chief. Thackston said people of all political views can expect to be treated fairly by the chief.

18. Philadelphia detective under investigation after allegedly attending Trump rally in DC

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau is probing whether a detective played any role in Wednesday's riot on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Action News has learned that one detective reportedly attended the rally in support of President Donald Trump that preceded the insurrection Wednesday.

Sources tell Action News that the detective works in the recruitment division and is tasked with screening new recruits to make sure they are fit to serve. Part of the detective's job involves screening the social media accounts of those recruits.

Authorities are working to determine if any other police department personnel were in attendance during the rally. The name of the detective under investigation is not being released.

19. Photo surfaces showing two Rocky Mount police officers inside Capitol on Wednesday

Jan 2021

The photo, authenticated by 10 News and posted above in the screenshot, shows two men standing in front of the John Stark statue, located inside the Capitol’s Crypt. Stark of New Hampshire is famous for coining the slogan, “Live free or die.”

Shortly after that, Jacob Fracker, a Rocky Mount officer posted publicly on his now deleted Facebook page about it, saying, “Lol to anyone who’s possibly concerned about the picture of me going around... Sorry I hate freedom? Not like I did anything illegal, way too much to lost to go there, but y’all do what you feel you need to do.”

*****

Sunday morning, about 12 hours following the viral post, Rocky Mount issued a statement saying the town supports lawful expressions of freedom of speech and assembly by its employees, but doesn’t condone the unlawful acts that occurred that day.

The two officers are both on administrative leave.

26. A small town seethes after learning one of its own says he joined Capitol's mob

ABERDEEN, Md. — The young man’s gleeful declaration began spreading through his neighbors’ Facebook feeds Jan. 7, the day after President Trump incited a mob of rabid followers to invade the U.S. Capitol. The post’s author announced he had been among them.

“Yeah, I stormed the Capitol. Yeah, I took my country back,” Christian Trabert, dressed in a red, white and blue snow cap, wrote above a photo of himself and five friends standing outside, his finger pointed toward the building’s Corinthian columns. “And no, I don’t feel bad. I feel great!”

When Linda Iser looked at the image and who had posted it, she struggled to process what she was seeing. Hundreds of young men had taken part in the deadly insurrection, but this one was from her community, the place in Maryland she had called home for half a century. Trabert, 24, had even gone to the same school as her two daughters, Aberdeen High. She felt ashamed, but also indignant, because of who Trabert is: the son of Aberdeen’s police chief.

13. Police seized alarming number of weapons on Capitol rioters, court documents show
Sat Jan 16, 2021, 01:44 PM

Police have seized an alarming number of guns from President Trump's supporters who descended on Washington, D.C., last week and stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop Congress's certification of the 2020 election results.

Police have seized an alarming number of guns from President Trump's supporters who descended on Washington, D.C., last week and stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop Congress's certification of the 2020 election results.

The details revealed in court documents over the past week paint a disturbing picture indicating that some of the demonstrators flocked to the Capitol prepared to carry out violence. The cases, likely only the beginning of a lengthy federal investigation, also suggest that the riot that overran the halls of Congress and left five people dead could have been much worse.

One man, Lonnie Coffman, is facing multiple weapons charges after police say they found him in possession of five guns, eleven Molotov cocktails, a crossbow, smoke bombs and a stun gun.

Coffman was arrested only because police were investigating pipe bombs that were discovered near the Capitol at the Republican Party and Democratic Party headquarters and noticed one of the guns in his truck while securing the area.

Authorities have said they don't believe Coffman was behind the pipe bombs and have yet to identify a suspect.

In charging documents filed with the federal district court in D.C., police said they searched Coffman’s truck while sweeping the areas around the pipe bombs, finding the weapons along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a list of public officials and journalists that identified them as “good guys” and “bad guys.”

COLORADO, USA — In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House leaders, dozens of Colorado elected officials in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District expressed their "condemnation of Representative Lauren Boebert based on her association with the right wing groups that supported the insurrection of the Capitol Building," and asked for an investigation into the Rifle Republican's actions.

The letter, first obtained by Steamboat Pilot and Today, says "there is deep concern about her actions leading up to and during the protests that turned into a violent and deadly mob."

16. Christine Pelosi feared for her mother's life and wants the SF Giants to take a stand about that
Sat Jan 16, 2021, 02:23 PM
Jan 2021

Christine Pelosi, a big deal in California politics and daughter of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, is poised to quit the board of the San Francisco Giants Community fund after revelations that principal owner Charles Johnson and his wife Ann are financial contributors to a Republican legislator accused of endangering the life of Pelosi’s mother.

The Johnsons each gave $2,800 to Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican, who was live tweeting the movements of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a violent mob ransacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Boebert’s sharing on Twitter that Nancy Pelosi was in the House chambers, and then tweeting again when she left the chambers, drew intense criticism from legislators. They accused Boebert of trying to aid rioters looking for the House speaker after the disrupted congressional ratification of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory over President Donald Trump.

Christine Pelosi said that Giants officials had tried to explain to her that despite Johnson’s funding of Boebert, the Giants didn’t share his political views and that the organization valued her and her mother. During that conversation, Pelosi said a Giants official reminded her team representatives had once visited the office of the speaker out of respect, roughly a decade ago, and gave her baseball bats and other memorabilia.

One of those bats was brandished by the rioters after they entered the speaker’s office and it may have been used to shatter a mirror, Christine Pelosi said.

27. Federal judge orders 'Proud Boys Hawaii' founder to surrender passport

Jan 2021

A federal magistrate judge ordered the founder of “Proud Boys Hawaii” accused of participating in the Jan. 6 siege at the U.S. Capitol to surrender his passport.

A remote hearing was held today for Nicholas “Nick” Robert Ochs, 34, at federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey in the District of Columbia on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful entry into restricted buildings or grounds.

Under the new conditions of his release, Harvey ruled Ochs must surrender his passport and stay out of Washington D.C. except for court purposes.

If he fails to comply with the conditions, a warrant can be issued for his arrest. When Harvey asked whether he understood the conditions, Ochs said, “I understand, your honor.”

His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 5.

The FBI have released photos of a suspect who is believed to have crushed a police officer during last week’s Capitol riot.

Officer Daniel Hodges was assaulted by rioters during the ordeal on January 6, which left five people dead.

A video of Hodges shows him being crushed in a doorway during the riot, which has led the FBI to identify the potential suspect. The FBI are now appealing to the public to help them identify the man.

30. EXCLUSIVE: FBI Makes Visits In Bucks County Following Attack On Capitol
Sat Jan 16, 2021, 04:55 PM
Jan 2021

Special agents from the FBI have visited multiple Bucks Countians as part of their investigations following last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol

Two law enforcement sources and a political insider have confirmed to LevittownNow.com that special agents have visited residents in the county, including in the lower end. A law enforcement source said it was their understanding the that visits were part of due diligence on tips received.

Federal authorities have not charged any Bucks Countians in relation to last week’s insurrection as of Friday afternoon.

City police in Washington D.C. have charged a Bensalem Township man with a curfew violation and possession of a weapon in connection with last week’s events.

Two organized bus trips from Bucks County went down to Washington D.C. last Wednesday for a rally featuring President Donald Trump and allies airing grievances about President-Elect Joe Biden’s win. No one connected to the buses is known to be facing charges and organizers for the one bus convoy said the group went to hear Trump speak at the rally a short distance from the capitol complex.
