Thinking I ought to buy some bubbly. Being in TN, I'm not with the majority so there should be supply aplenty.

(1,202 posts)I will celebrate by playing pinochle again. I gave the game up when "trump" got elected.

(8,445 posts)I used to love playing pinochle. It's been a long time since I played, and I don't know anyone who knows how to play anymore.
I love Pinochle and Hearts. I played them at a high level. I also like Spades. I learned Bridge when I was about 17 but never found a group to play with.

(8,445 posts)I grew up in rural North Dakota and the most common card game was Whist. Then when I met my first husband (relatively brief marriage in college), we played endless hours of Cribbage.
My second husband and I used to play hours and hours of Canasta against his mom and her best friend. In the beginning, they always won. The more we played, the better we got at figuring out each other's hands by the cards we were playing. Then WE started being the champions. My MIL and her friend were not gracious losers. They actually started accusing us of cheating by making up signals, but of course we weren't.
Then my husband's sister introduced us to Pinochle, and I just thought it was the best game ever.
That husband died at just 38 years old. I got married again, but the last husband was an absolute dud when it came to cards and board games. Then he became a MAGAt, after being a lifelong Democrat, and then he cheated, and now he's gone, thankfully.
I can't envision ever getting into any kind of romantic relationship again, but I sure wouldn't mind having somebody to play cards and board games with. Maybe after we get out of this pandemic, I'll put forth some effort to find people with that interest.

(1,202 posts)I'm sorry for the loss of your second husband. Good riddance to your third. My ex-wife turned into a Trump fan after we divorced from what I've been told. It doesn't surprise me.
I used to like to play Cribbage. I do not remember ever playing Canasta.

(8,445 posts)Yeah, I like those too. My grandmother used to teach my brother and I card games whenever she came to visit, which was a couple of times a year because she lived in another state. My brother was quite competitive, so he was always up for a game of cards, usually Hearts or Spades, or board game.

(3,401 posts)Still lots of Trump flags and signs still displayed. But I can tell that they are working through the process of their grief and I am not volunteering to help them with that.

(1,408 posts)I actually bought it for Election Day, but at that time it felt premature. Ready to toast to better days ahead and relief from the constant stress of four years with a crazed mob family destroying the country.

(803 posts)Hubby and I will be home having brunch consisting of Mimosas and tamales while we watch the festivities.
We bought a bottle of good champagne, a bottle of orange juice, and a dozen homemade tamales. We are ready.

(23,321 posts)Then maybe wander outside and replant the old Biden/Harris lawn sign.
Later, have a wee bit of rye whiskey and watch what should be a great speech. Possibly accompanied by another wee bit of rye whiskey.
