Biden readies sweeping rollback of Trump-era abortion crackdown

Biden readies sweeping rollback of Trump-era abortion crackdown
"We have a ton of work to do to undo the harm over the last four years," said Planned Parenthood President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson.

President-elect Joe Biden is poised to roll back several of the Trump administration's most restrictive sexual and reproductive health policies, including limits on abortion.

Reproductive rights advocates expect Biden to quickly overturn Trump-era rules, like banning federal funds for foreign and national health organizations that promote and provide abortion and giving employers more freedom to deny free contraceptive coverage for their workers.

"We have a ton of work to do to undo the harm over the last four years, but knowing we have champions there who understand what needs to happen in the first 100 days is tremendously exciting," said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood.

Biden is a devout Roman Catholic, and his position on abortion has evolved throughout his career. Most recently, in 2019, he dropped his long-standing support of the Hyde Amendment, a decades-old policy restricting federal funding for abortions, after having faced mounting criticism. He has also vowed to codify Roe v. Wade and to fight state-level policies limiting access to abortion.

Here are some of the ways Biden has indicated he will restore and improve access to reproductive care:

And that abortions decrease when healthcare is
accessible.

And that you really can’t and shouldn’t legislate
morality which is a private matter.

Biden understands that he must legislate for everyone, not just for one religion.

I remember my pro life Irish Catholic mother saying
that you really shouldn't legislate morality. I was
pretty amazed she said that, but she understood
politics to the bone and she could see what a slippery
slope that is.

She wasn't into shaming or jailing people over personal
moral choices around healthcare.

They say that he is "pro-abortion", and abortion is the one and only moral issue that matters.

Good news.

And we must enjoy this as if we are being nourished for the first time in years.

We will build back our strength and have a clearer head on how to go forward.

Ridin’ with Biden is going to be so joyful!

Here are just a few things on healthcare. There are hundreds, if not thousands, more on foreign policy, infrastructure spending, cybersecurity, military spending, statehood for DC, consumer protection, bank regulations, restoring the USPS, election security with all voting machines having paper backup. And on and on. I trust this team to be on the ball, but the big things need to get done before the 2022 election. Democrats have a big risk of losing the House majority because of new Republican gerrymandering from the 2020 census and any shifts in population from blue states to red states like Texas.

1. Codify Roe v. Wade into law, make birth control and morning-after pills OTC, require all health insurance plans to cover contraception.
2. Expand federal courts, including Supreme Court to 13.
3. Lower Medicare age to 60 this year and to 50 as soon as all the new people have been integrated into the system. Enable Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
4. Consider integrating Medicaid into the Medicare system. I’m not sure how this would work, but it would give states less leeway to deny poor people health insurance. The requirement for Medicare would then be both age and means testing.

Isn’t it great to feel like we have a real government again!

Your great "chosen by Jesus H. Christ himself" president. The president who was going to overturn Roe v. Wade for you, your new messiah!

The man who wasn't fit (and still isn't) to pass the baskets in your multi-million dollar glass and steel cathedrals, because he'd steal 50% for himself first. That wouldn't matter to you though, because he was going to deliver everything you ever dreamed of to further your quest of a christo-fascist America.

Guess what? He failed you, he deceived you , he lied to you, he took your money and ran. Now Democrats are going to undo everything that he did accomplish, SO SUCK ON THAT! Better find another huckster messiah, suckers!

Recent books like Sarah Posner's Unholy and Katherine Stewart's The Power Worshippers leave the reader with a foreboding sense that Christian Nationalism will be hard to overcome/defeat, and it is so gratifying to see that high on the Biden/Harris agenda is showing them who is boss, and reminding them that THEY hold the minority view on reproductive rights.

Words matter, and abortion is legal, not some illicit activity.

It wasn’t a crackdown, it was a suppression of women’s healthcare rights.
