one of these days for speaking my mind. Today I encountered a guy who wasn't wearing a mask. I said, "No mask?" He gave me this stupid, condescending grin and said "No". I really wanted to smack him but I just shook my head and walked away. Plus he was walking the wrong way down a clearly marked one way aisle. What do you do when you encounter assholes like this?

(21,883 posts)I don't go to the grocery very often, always wear a mask. But one time I accidentally didn't pay attention to the one way marker at the end of the aisle. As soon as I realized, I turned my cart around and exited the aisle. I was just so excited that there was Charmin TP in that aisle. Oops. Felt bad, but the store wasn't crowded at all.

(3,466 posts)thing makes me crazy. If I dont need something down aisle A, but a thing I need is in aisle B - I still have to go all the way down A so I can turn around and go to B to get my thing. Its infuriating and a waste of my time to have to traipse every goddamn aisle to get 5 things I need because theyre not marked the right direction for me to skip aisles I dont need. So, yes, I am the asshole about the aisles.
Pretty sure Im not alone, cause my grocery store took the arrows off the floor after a very short while. Idea only works on paper assuming all shoppers go thru every aisle.

(19,847 posts)I'm all in on the masks and distancing but the one way aisles only do any good if you also require people not to pass others while they are looking at something on the shelf. You also need to mark the cross-aisles.

(16,269 posts)I won't go into a grocery or any other store unless there is no alternative. The new strain of covid is even more contagious so I don't need to be in the same room as a maskhole.

(1,495 posts)Every time I have to go on an errand to get cash from the ATM, I see multiple maskholes. I sure wouldn't want to be in a store for an hour with these people.

(1,585 posts)There are just too many of them and it only takes one.
Plus the CDC issued the warning to anyone in high risk groups to not go into any indoor space that may have a person not wearing a mask.

(22,645 posts)I'm kidding of course.
What I do is to get far away from them as soon as possible.
If I'm in a situation where I'm trapped with them and have to get by them in an aisle or something, I do a big drama filled move where I give them a side- eye and say something like "WTF man" as I slink by them holding my breath.
Best thing is to just get away from them.

(81,242 posts)I tell the person: You are going to get sick if you don't wear a mask. Do you want to die? I know I don't.
If they don't have their nose covered, I tell them to pull up their mask over their nose.
One man told me it fogs up his glasses.
I told him if fogs up EVERYBODY'S glasses, we are all struggling, but we have to do the right thing.
If they are wearing the mask as a chin diaper, I tell them to pull up their mask.
I am a small older female, no male has so far wanted to get into fisticuffs with me.
But I am willing to fight if I have to. I get so mad when I see people not wearing masks.

(10,702 posts)If they say there is nothing they can do I let them know I am leaving my cart for them to put back but that I won't be coming back to their store and will let my family and friends know that they dont care about the health of all their customers. It usually gets some movement.

(81,242 posts)I was in for a PT appointment and another patient was not wearing a mask. When I complained to the center manager, she said patients did not have to wear masks at all times. Which is the opposite of what I was told when I called to screen PT sites for Covid protection.
I had about three months of future PT appointments on their calendar and cancelled them all on the spot and walked out.
I then called the CEO of the company and complained as well. I told them that if I get Covid, I am holding them liable.
The CEO office called me right back and apologized and said changes would be made. Asked me to reschedule my appointments.
I said no thanks. I don't trust the PT center with my health. I went else where with a very good Covid protocol.
I was also in line waiting for a register to come open at the drug store. One clerk motioned me to come up to her register.
I said loudly: No thank you, the man standing in line right next to that register does not have a mask on. I will wait until a safe spot opens up. Every one looked at him.
I have not tried your tactic yet, walk out and leave a basket full of merchandise.
We can also leave a bad review citing their refusal to make customers wear masks.
We are going to have half a million American deaths and there are still idiots out there not wearing masks.
I have run out of patience with these people.

(17,757 posts)The Employees don't wear masks or don't wear them properly. I complained to their home office and it improved for a few days, but then they went back to their old tricks. To go to another grocery store I have to drive an additional 20 miles. I just try to stay out of their way.

(81,242 posts)Call the stores CEO's office. That is the only person who can do anything.
Complain to the manager when you go in.
People not wearing masks around you increase your risk.
It is not fair.

(58 posts)Whole Foods and Publix have signs that state mask is required for entry. I saw a guy kicked out of the liquor store for not wearing a mask. It has not been a problem here.

(24,876 posts)Not to tell you anything you already know, but the presence of the Redstone Arsenal and the various NASA facilities means your city has a high number of advanced degrees, and as a result, a smarter, better educated (and as a natural result, more liberal) population than most other towns nearby.
I'll bet the folks that refuse to wear a mask have no problems down the road in Decatur or Culman.

(38,634 posts)Stores in Ohio are obligated to enforce the mask order, and a unit out of the BES is the entity charged with enforcement.
If there are more than a couple, or they are repeat offenders, I stop shopping there and tell them why (and report them).
I comply with one-way aisles - but it doesn't really bother me if others don't. The real risk is the aerosolized cloud that lingers in the space the breather occupied. That cloud really doesn't become worse because they are walking toward me rather than away.

(8,909 posts)and I did what you did I said no mask huh, he said no and proceeded to walk on and I said so your one of those anti mask people then, he just kept walking so I found a store employee in the meat dept and I said are'nt mask required in this store and he said yes why I said some dude in a red shirt on that isle refuses to wear one and boy he got pissed and went straight to the guy and informed him that he had to leave with no mask the guy left immediately.
So just tell store personnel.

(11,849 posts)It would be easier, safer and less frustrating if you ordered online for curbside pickup or door delivery. It would at this time be the safest option for those of us wanting to avoid potentially infected people. You can always report the store for not enforcing mask wearing.

Not wearing a mask is as irresponsible as pointing a loaded gun at people. Sure, you may not intend to hurt anyone, but you know how dangerous it is.

(24,906 posts)Has been from the beginning. The one way thing is just not working. The way the stores are designed to draw your eyes to the products keeps you from looking at the floor. I couldn't tell you the color of the floor at the store where I have been shopping for 30 years. They need to put the one way signs at eye level.

(166 posts)I have been known to say "Gee, you'd look alot better in a mask than ventilator tubes" Stunned a couple people. In my town we have a Pet Store where college age kids work. They wear their mask under their nose. I walk in and see a kid like that and he says "can I help you?" I tell him "Yea, you can pull that mask up over your nose, I don't want your germs." Got a hella look but he complied. I have not been back in there since. Their is a large Pet Store chain store just down the street and I'm going back there because they care.

(34,610 posts)I'm happy about it because it didn't make sense. I also didn't think space between shoppers needed to be 6 feet especially if it was crowded. Early in the pandemic, I was in a lane looking at stuff and I saw from a distance someone further away from me but I kept looking at the items and I decided to look wondering why they didn't move and apparently this lady was just waiting til I moved. I thought geeze come on lady you can still pass me up...we both had masks on.
