Everyone talks about right wing militias. Are there left wing militias with armed members running around the woods talking about healthcare and the environment?

Go to the Telluride or Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festivals. Plenty of progressive folks. With banjos.

(16,402 posts)The left wing extremists sometimes damage property and sabotage equipment but take great pains to avoid physical violence and loss of life. Plus there are far fewer of them the right wing variety.

(6,477 posts)They of course won't get a thank you here, but they're out there.
The alt-right is learning right now that Black Bloc is not an identity or fashion statement, but a street protest tactic for unarresting people and not being identified after the fact. The right is used to cosplaying and LARPing in the woods, and outside of a small group of hardcores, has little experience of the law crashing down on them, which lefty groups have dealt with for decades. So the right wing "militias" are more visible, largely because visibility has not been a deficit for them. But don't get it twisted: the Proud Boys and similar groups have had their asses handed to them in street battles as much as they've been handed it out.

(26,058 posts)I wouldn't classify them as right-wing, but I'm not sure if that automatically makes them left-wing?

(7,350 posts)...were taken down by the FBI a long time ago.
Remember watching on the news, perhaps 15-20 years ago or more? Some eco-terrorists set fire to a few gas guzzling SUV's at a dealership....and that was it. Don't know if they got caught or realized they were polluting more by setting them on fire.

(24,722 posts)My left wing militia likes to go to the farmers market on Saturdays...then get some coffee...go home and get a snack and then go hiking with our dogs....Pretty radical I know. If things get really crazy, I might get on my bike and ride up to Stuart Peak....if the snow isnt too deep.

(5,410 posts)"Redneck Revolt is an American far-left political group[1][2][3] that organizes predominantly among white working-class people. The group supports gun rights and members often openly carry firearms. Its political positions are anti-capitalist, anti-racist and anti-fascist. Founded in Kansas in 2009, members were present at several protests against Donald Trump and against the far-right in 2017."
