Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sharply criticized federal officials on Monday over reports that the Department of Defense, assisted by the FBI, is vetting members of the National Guard assigned to provide security during the inauguration this week.
In a tweet Monday evening that included an article from The Washington Post, Abbott called the joint effort by the Pentagon and FBI "offensive." He also said that he would not order Texas's National Guard deployed to Washington, D.C., again if the troops under his command were "disrespected" and had to take part in the vetting effort.
"No one should ever question the loyalty or professionalism of the Texas National Guard," he tweeted.
The Associated Press reported Sunday that FBI officials were moving to vet all 25,000 members of the National Guard deployed to D.C. in an attempt to eliminate the possibility of an attack during the inauguration. Abbott's remarks came just hours before it was reported Tuesday that two members of the National Guard had been removed from their assignments to the inauguration due to ties to right-wing fringe groups.

(23,453 posts)The military and government people swore to defend and protect the Constitution of the U.S.A. And cops and firefighters who have or had jobs to protect the public. And individuals like abbott who continue to abet traitorous activity by not condemning it.
I saw a post on Facebook: "Funny how so far, all of the people who attacked the Capitol have people in their personal lives that are willing to turn them in."

Oath Keepers.
The problem is they all think they are defending the Constitution - as they interpret it. They don't understand that in this country, the courts interpret that, not Sheriffs or soldiers.

So, Governor, please proceed. Use your Tweeter to whine about the FBI vetting the troops you send to guard American ideals. Piss and moan about how disrespectful it is to have Americans in uniform be double and triple checked for extremist activity. Your guy caused the suspicion. Boo hoo.

(21,352 posts)for radicalized behavior, Greg? If so, by whom? Would you know it if you saw it, Greg, and do anything about it?
There is apparently some radicalized behavior going on at Ft. Hood even after the 2009 and 2014 shooting sprees there. If the army can't root it out among active duty troops then why would anybody expect it to be rooted out among national guard?
