I was watching Al on Anderson Cooper. Al has always had my respect and admiration for putting country over self. It has always broken my heart that he was not President. He has honor.
Same with Hillary. It broke my heart that America was denied her leadership and we were forced to endure the atrocity of the last four years.
So, twice in my lifetime, the better candidates have been denied. That makes it all the more meaningful to me that Joe and Kamala will now lead. Restore dignity, grace, logic and compassion to a country that hungers for those qualities.
Im very proud to be a Democrat. We must never allow another time when the best candidate is denied. We do this by continuing to show up in numbers too big to ignore. When the time comes, Ill be there. Ill show up. Every time.

(2,547 posts)His "loss" was absolutely devastating. Pat Buchanan securing the Jewish vote in Palm Beach? Ugh.
But he is a good man. I bought his book at a signing in Philly and said "Thank you, Mr. President.'

(5,347 posts)The only shred of consolation I have about Hillary is that T would have tied her up in court for 4 years, whining that she stole it from him. Not that he ever wanted the office, but he does like to abuse women.

(31,261 posts)In 1980 and 2016, it was a divisive primary where the losing candidate didnt immediately and enthusiastically embrace the winner of the primary. In 2000, it was a damaging third party run by a person claiming to share our values. In all three cases, people on the left either didnt vote, or wasted votes by voting for someone who could not possibly win a race which the people werent factors.
I have read replies, not all though. I havent seen one key promise. In a General election race, only one of the two major party candidates will become President. If people dont take that to heart and show up at the polls to back the Democrat, we are always going to take a step backwards, in the cases of Reagan, George Bush and Trump, we took several very damaging steps backward. The same logic about a General election must also be followed for midterms, we cant continue to win a Presidential race, only to lose legislative power during midterms.

(5,347 posts)Even if you're saying I hate you I hate you I hate you the whole time--I'd just think about the Republican, and it was easy. I don't understand any other way of thinking. Yes, I was mightily disappointed. Often.

(31,261 posts)You Lincoln versus Edward Everett (Everett was a renowned, politician, educator, statesman and above all, orator who spoke for two hours during the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Lincoln spoke for 3 minutes. All that people remember is Lincolns Gettysburg Address and that Everett spoke for a very long time).
Your post is an example of how a few words can capture the essence of a subject. Many of us have voted for Democrats that we were not excited about, but when doing that, we need to think about the alternative. Some people refuse to do that, and when that happens, we get disasters like George Bush and Trump, and as you pointed out, we will likely get something really bad if another republican win Office.

(26,168 posts)I learned disappointment early, and the disgust of feeling cheated. Never, ever fail to vote. When we all show up, we win.

(40,706 posts)The Presidency was stolen from him, but he refused to tear the country apart. Because that's what would have happened if he had started all the lawsuits and the BS that Chump tried to pull off. And yet, Gore was deserving because it really WAS rightfully his.

(19,546 posts)were given legitimacy by their opponents. Both Presidents left disasters in their paths. We need to vote in every election as I do.
I don't care if you did not get everything. The last two Repugs were disasters. The next Repub President will be a Nazi. The GOP has already given assent to Trump's lawlessness.

(60,831 posts)Between his heroic opposition to the Vietnam War, to being the essential person to getting the Paris Accord and starting the our ocean conferences, he has been a force for good. He will be a huge asset for the Biden administration. I remember an article, I think in the Washington Post speaking of the crazy amount of top international honors he received at the end of his term. I doubt these honors came to zpompeo.

(5,381 posts)This seems like a good night and thread for this photo. Its Al Gore in his limo, giving me the thumbs up, at the first Clinton/Gore Inauguration. Mom took the pic, the slightly amused Secret Service guy is looking at teenage me jumping up and down, squealing in excitement and waving like a maniac, lol!
Right before the parade ended, Mom and I hurried down a side street in an attempt to beat the hoardes to the Metro. We heard a bit of commotion behind us and, lo and behold, it was the Gores cruising down the street. We had so much fun that day.

(5,381 posts)We were wandering around, enjoying the day, and by the time we got to the parade route the crowd was 5 rows deep and we are not very tall ladies.
Before the parade, we happened to walk down the street where the floats were parked and that was cool. There is a pic of me with (possibly on, iirc, lol) the Socks the Cat float. Its missing from the page in my photo album.
Hopefully it will turn up as I (eventually) go through all these old boxes.
I love Al Gore, it was a real treat to know that he saw us and appreciated our being there.

Well said, indeed!
