(59,504 posts)For years, I thought the song both impossible for most of us to sing and its words reflected the uncertain, potentially defeated country that we were during the War of 1812.
Slowing the pace allowed the words that I would usually ignore to sink in - at least to me. Having had the US flag TORN DOWN just last week and replaced with an odious Trump flag and native born terrorists desecrated the building. The song - probably for the first time - made me emotional that the flag was still there and the ceremony prevailed.
Lady Gaga has a remarkable voice and she is a person who completely understands how to use a stage. Her performance fit the ceremony well. It was one of several things that presaged the Biden message in his speech I hope that the bright hopes of this day, even with the admitted enormous problems, last for more than this day.
