When the primaries started, my first choice was Elizabeth Warren. I viewed Joe Biden as a status quo, placeholder candidate, a candidate who wouldn't upset middle of the road voters. I was wrong. President Biden's cabinet choices, his EOs, and his statements
fully demonstrate that he's not merely keeping the Oval Office chair warm.
The diversity in his cabinet choices, as well as his support for environmental issues and economic issues (raising the minimum wage), show that he is truly trying to unify our country.
I even appreciate his call for conservatives and Republicans to join us. I don't think that call will yield results. However, I am very happy that President Biden is unifying Americans that are willing to be unified and that realize that we are a very diverse country, made up of all colors, genders, and sexual orientations.

(23,578 posts)I also advised those who wanted to go radical against 45 to start working their candidates in from the ground up: School boards, city councils, county commissioner's courts, Mayors. Make a name then move in to a legislative position then on from there
This is exactly how the Republicans took control of everything. It has been a very long con and we dropped the ball.
The #1 objective on our plates going forward is having massive voter turnout in 2022
Demsrule86
(71,464 posts)And that has put us in a perilous position. We should run against McConnell and the do nothing Republicans. There are some chances for us in the Senate...PA and MI for example off the top of my head. We also have to start now on the House which is severely endangered in 2022.

I do have to say, that I am more impressed now than I was in the beginning. We are so lucky to have him. He is the perfect man for this time and today's problems. I often said that about FDR and I think that is true about President Biden as well. (To clarify, I wasn't around during FDR's administration. I meant that historically.)

I had no idea that Trump could get 74 million votes, especially after four years of chaos, corruption, incompetence, and 100,000s dead. He couldn't possibly have been worse, yet those people voted for him again. That still scares me, as I don't know what he would have had to do to lose their votes.

(32,017 posts)The Democratic Party, as a whole, is far more liberal now than when Joe first ran for the Presidency in 1988. Joe is going with the party, in the same manner as the great Mohandas Gandhi, who said, There go my people, and I must follow them, for I am their leader.
Thats a true politician, and so is Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.

(54,459 posts)I must say it was a feeling in my gut statement when I told this to my family at a special family dinner. We are all Dems but none had considered this combo. After I brought up the possibility every on at the table said they could see it and liked the idea.
I could see we needed someone who already is experienced and has a good reputation with our foreign allies, making the need to win them over with an unknown POTUS unnecessary and saves time. America needs a confident POTUS who would be accepted by all. I wanted a female, a minority, a very progressive platform, etc. I knew that this platform could not win the Independents easily so I had to choose a combination team who would be the best chance to win AT THIS TIME. Joe and Kamala are that team and are at the right place, at the right time in our History.

(25,355 posts)Warren was my first choice. I loved her intelligence, sense of humor, and forthrightness.
But later I realized that we needed someone with executive office experience to clean up the mess and know what to do from the start. So I switched to Biden, whom I've always liked. He is exceeding all my hopes and expectations. He is the right person at the right time in the right place.

(53,351 posts)to Trump flips and the orange monster would have been re-elected) separating our victory from defeat, I think Biden was the only person who could have pulled it off, IMHO. He was able to pull in enough conservatives in AZ and WI to shade those two, and Harris (who would not have been Warren's VP) along with Stacey Abrams' efforts skyrocketed the A-A vote in GA.

(12,165 posts)I don't think anyone could be faulted by thinking JRB is a centrist. But, in any case, it was good of you to stand up.
I'm not sure if it's irony, but I'm going to call it that. It doesn't matter if Biden is a centrist, it doesn't matter if he was the default candidate, or even the chair-warmer some claimed him to be.
It would be impossible for a great career politician who never made waves and knows the system and everyone worth knowing to do a worse job than what we have just seen. It would be impossible for almost anyone to do a worse job.

(1,774 posts)My first choice was Warren too, and I made the mistake of writing a post just like this essentially saying that I thought Biden would be a status quo, middle of the road, don't rock the boat candidate, compared to Warren who would bring more radical change I wanted. Got my 20 year old account banned by the admins for that, so I had to make this new one.
However, I am very happy with the results of the election, and now fully support Joe Biden as our president (so please don't ban me again for saying I didn't always support Biden).

(12,356 posts)The important thing is that we all support President Biden in the now because the challenges he and his staff will face are incredibly difficult, made all the more complicated by Trump's screwups, vindictiveness and incompetence. I'm very encouraged by the people Biden's brought on board, those with top-tier experience, professionalism and expertise. I want to return to the days where the word 'expert' and 'science' are not considered expletives.
As for the primary? We had a great selection of people. For me, Joe Biden was made for this particular moment in history. And he's already proving that with his commitments, words and actual work right out of the box.
It's going to be an arduous haul ahead but everything's leaning in the right direction.
I'm more optimistic today than I've been for a long time.

(7,715 posts)Of all the candidates, D or R, he was uniquely qualified to be President in 2020. I saw this before the pandemic, and so did Trump. That's why Trump was hell-bent on destroying President Biden enough to risk and suffer impeachment (and this was many months before we had even heard of COVID-19....the country was already in a disastrous state back then). If I am not mistaken, President Biden led Trump in every poll from the moment he announced his candidacy until November 3, 2020.
Progressive changes can be made incrementally. 2020 was NOT the year for change; instead, it was a massive desire by the vast majority of Americans to return to normalcy and to someone you could trust completely. That's President Biden.
President Biden's national and international expertise in governing is unparalleled, except for BHO or Bill Clinton.
Most of all, he is an unbelievably decent person. I know that if something bad happened to me, and President Biden found out about it, he would come to my aid. That's the kind of President that I want and now have: loyal, brave, experienced, politically savvy, and, most of all, kind and caring for all of us.
I have actually never predicted a Presidential race from start to finish correctly until 2020. For example, I never saw Bill Clinton's rise in 1992, I never thought that BHO would defeat HRC, never thought W would "defeat" Al Gore, and never thought Trump could be President.
This is one time I called it right, and I can't be happier. President Biden and VP Harris are the PERFECT combination to take us out of these awful times.
