The day after the 2016 election, President Obama's chief of staff sent a memo to every political appointee instructing them to submit their resignations within two weeks. And repeated reminders were sent to anyone who may have forgotten. That's how it's always been done.

Another example of Trump's and his crew's undignified obnoxious behavior.

It is considered a resignation for many purposes where it makes a difference, but for the purpose of unemployment, it's considered an involuntary separation so political appointees can collect unemployment.

It really doesn't affect pensions, civil service status since terminations not for cause don't have any impact on those things - what matters is the amount of time served and the pay received.
