Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid Biden say anything about vaccine supply?
Came in towards end of his signing ceremony. Did he address the actual supply problem....seems like the problem around here is that there just isn't availability. We know Trump left with warehouses empty & no plan. Did Joe mention being in contact with suppliers, etc. & how delayed are they???? Thanks

(28,856 posts)There will be federal agencies and alignment with WHO.
The CDC will also be working with pharmacies.
There will be a federal liaison to every state to oversee
distribution.

(64,993 posts)Neither Pfizer nor Moderna ever said they would be at full capacity by now.
They are forecasting 3 million doses per day each, using internal infrastructure. They are at around 40% right now. This is typical for start up of a novel product for nearly any industry.
It's unlikely they would be up to full output in under 3 months.
They are still negotiating approved 3rd party manufacturing for both companies, which could add a half million doses per day, each.
They've shipped 36+ million doses in around 6 weeks. That's around 16% of the eventual capacity. Again, not atypical for a start up.
J&J is ramping up now, pre-approval and is forecasting full throughout as 1.4billion doses a year. If they get approval & emergency authorization in the next 3 weeks, they expect to still be able to make a billion by end of 2021. The advantage here is that the J&J vaccine is single shot.
This all projects to dosing for 2 billion people in 2021, just from vaccines manufactured in the US.
The problem isn't manufacturing capability. It's distribution, as there was no actual plan until now.
