The law firm that handled the tax affairs of Donald Trump and his company during his presidency said it would stop representing him and his business.
The firm, Morgan Lewis & Bockius, is currently wrangling with the New York attorney generals office over documents related to its work for the former presidents business, the Trump Organization. Led by Democratic Attorney General Letitia James, the office is conducting a civil-fraud probe into Mr. Trumps financial dealings.
We have had a limited representation of the Trump Organization and Donald Trump in tax-related matters, a Morgan Lewis spokeswoman said. For those matters not already concluded, we are transitioning as appropriate to other counsel.
The spokeswoman didnt provide a reason for the firms decision.

(44,417 posts)In Sidney Zion's autobiography of Roy Cohn,* Cohn's MO was not to take money for legal services rendered (or for "fixing" a situation). Instead, he collected a "marker," that is, an exchange of favors. The client would be connected to banks or politics or government, etc. and would be expected to pay back Cohn's marker when asked (at any time) for a value that exceeded the value of services rendered. That's why Cohn was so "well connected."
Trump obviously was aware of this type of barter system and has tried to institute it on past legal counsel -- but, as we all know, Trump never reciprocated with the markers, that is, no money and no return favor(s).
You can't believe for a moment that Trump ever paid a retainer for any attorney, can you? (And Trump is a poster child of why attorneys make you put up $7,500 and more for a retainer before the first phonecall. They don't have insurance that they'll get their money. BTW, lawyers and doctors are the last professions generally paid according to statistics.)
