'Long live the Republic!'But then I'm a cranky lapsed Unitarian.

the Republic's ears.
(Don't be surprised if the Republic turns a deaf ear to this very democratic idea.)

(15,210 posts)...I'd LOVE for all of the God blessing of this, that, and the other thing to stop, and the oaths on top of Bibles, etc.
As a practical person, however, I know you've got to pick your battles, and we'd still have Trump as President if Biden weren't showing all those God-fearin' 'mericans that he's a "man of deep faith".
I live a pretty privileged existence despite the unpopularity of atheism in American culture, so that does make it easier to put practicality ahead of my ideals of separation of church and state.

(5,499 posts)Like you, I get why Biden is being very public about his faith. And I don't doubt for a second that it is genuine. It's like the small, very bitter side dish of an otherwise great meal. I scrape it to the side and try to ignore it.
I, personally, just can't share in that. And I've tried. But logically it doesn't add up. And I would fell silly (and dishonest) trying to pretend otherwise.
