Biden administration faces mounting pressure to address SolarWinds breach

By Geneva Sands, Brian Fung and Zachary Cohen, CNN

Updated 9:01 AM ET, Sat January 23, 2021

(CNN) - Despite announcing a thorough intelligence review of Russian misconduct, President Joe Biden's administration faces mounting pressure to respond to one of the worst data breaches ever to hit the US government.

The computer intrusion campaign that has been linked to Russia has hit multiple federal agencies and the private sector, raising concerns about the security of corporate secrets, government emails and other sensitive data. The Trump administration formally pointed the finger at Russia earlier this month after revelations surfaced in December that hackers had put malicious code into a tool published by SolarWinds, a software vendor used by countless government agencies and Fortune 500 businesses.

As Biden officials assume responsibility for investigating the hack campaign, members of Congress, former federal officials and new evidence unearthed by Microsoft this week have added renewed urgency to the search for answers.

"This SolarWinds massive breach concerns all of us, and frankly, is not that surprising, given what we have been finding, which is that the federal government is not well prepared to deal with these kinds of breaches," Sen. Rob Portman, Republican of Ohio, said at a hearing this week.

Yes that's it terrorists.

That happen to be homeless because that other aircraft carrier destroyed their government.

I agree with you on re-prioritizing defense budgets.

... yesterday. Joe directed that be done on the 2nd day of his Presidency too. And Joe knows that is
"a kill shot" for Trump too because why did he fire the head of our cyber security outfit 2 different times
and did Trump have chats on the phone or in person w/Vlad? BTW Trump blamed China about the security
breach too.

BTW Fuck you Rob Portman you did not say shit about this when or after it happened when Trump
was President or when Trump fired in 2020 2 different heads of our cyber security people.

7. Yep, and like everything else, Biden is having to start from scratch.

Portman knows damn well that Trump was not going to pass along any form of legitimate intelligence or evidence regarding the breach. He and the other critics need to just shut the fuck up, and help Biden rectify the situation. The man has been in office two lousy days, and is dealing with economic catastrophe and a pandemic that is killing Americans in droves, and has our already shoddy healthcare system on the brink. Shut the hell up and help him out, ffs.

... a total dick. You watch it will not be long before the GOP is blaming Biden for the
Russian breach of our cyber system just like Portman blamed Ted Strickland for the
economic hardships in OH caused by republican policies.

BTW Biden calling for an investigation into Russia's breach into our cyber systems is
a "kill shot" to Trump and Joe knows that.

And take appropriate measures. Unlike Trump, Joe Biden and team are no friends of Putin.

Btw, the 'mounting pressure' is after how many days in office? Hummm. Three?

For pity sakes, CNN!
