"The first order of business is for law enforcement to complete the task of identifying and arresting all of those who were involved. They should be charged with the greatest offense possible & judges should sentence them to the maximum sentences allowed."

(296,118 posts)Their silence about their own Evangelical VP needs to be exposed big time although his own silence defies both common sense, logic or sanity. No sane person could be that power hungry.
Now we know all this crap they've been spewing for decades has no meaning - they don't give a flying fuck about democracy or violence against the police.

(18,318 posts)They will try this again if EVERYONE isn't punished. Again and again. We came this close to losing everything.
WE CANNOT ALLOW ANYONE TO GO UNPUNISHED! THEY TRIED TO OVERTHROW OUR GOVERNMENT, EVEN THOSE SERVING WITHIN!

(192 posts)My hubby was in the Army back in the late 70's. He witnessed racist tendencies in a lot of the new recruits as well as the enlisted command structure. There was also rampant sexual harassment of the new female trainees from the same. Years of lip service and 40+ years later, we still have the same problems. Both the country and the world needs to see that we live by our laws. Following them to their logical and necessary conclusions is the only way that we move forward.
Great response MM. Love your work!!!

The Oath they all take is not ambiguous. Problems occur when they either forget about the oath or try to equivocate on its' meaning.

(22,590 posts)Sorry if I didn't make that clear. That crowd is the absolute worst of the worst, imo.

(192 posts)Oops. No need for apology. My response may have sounded critical - unintentionally. Just taking an opportunity to be redundant. Like yourself, my thinking right now is to keep pointing fingers at EVERYONE involved - anytime possible.
Thanks for responding. Nice to be part of the back-and-forth.....

(11,949 posts)Yeah, thousands may think like them. But the ones willing to risk it all we all there.
Jail all them for 20 years and lots of steam goes out of the boiler.
And make sure it is publicized that they lose the right to own guns. Thats a gut punch for this crowd.
Small population, identified in the act; visible enforcement response could have outsized preventive repercussions. Conversely, a weak enforcement response will also speak volumes to their followers.

(13,003 posts)How about this: Round up all 5K+, Issue them military gear, and drop them all in the middle of Afghanistan, and tell them all go for it!
If they want to play tough guys and play military, give them their wish.........

(11,949 posts)Besides, weve done enough damage there. No need to send them more religious fundamentalists. Theyve got plenty of their own.

Damn, maybe this is buried Trumpsters talking, if so they must be rooted out.

(6,059 posts)it should only be in the sentencing. Let them all live with federal felonies on their record.

(7,334 posts)I am not saying they all need to serve jail time - but 100's of hours of community service, a hefty fine, perhaps a 30-90 day stint on house arrest, and a felony on their records.
I'd be happy with that.
soldierant
(9,354 posts)Community service is fine for some offenses.
I do not like the idea of violent seditionists (even ones who committed no actual violence at the Capitol) "serving" in my community. I want them kept away from me. Prison would accomplish that.

(13,032 posts)Not charging some of them. If not involved in any violence or vandalism, if they were just there in the Capitol wandering around, may be no charges. Courts would be tied up fo years, costs would be too high, blah, blah, blah.
Fucking bull... get them all.

(14,371 posts)I am tired of white people not being charged because of their white faces. You know damn well if these were black people they'd ALL be locked up. Aso any people within a hundred feet of the Capitol police officer who was murdered should be charged with felony murder. People who have done less have be charged with that.

(302 posts)The Impeachment is about factoids, myths, opinions and politics. The criminal trial will be about facts, evidence and ultimately, justice.
Arresting the morons and haters storming the Capital is like firing the secretary at a firm that bilked shareholders of billion$. It's just for show. Absent the successful prosecution of the pols, Pentagoners and money movers that cultivated, emboldened, coordinated, funded, transported, directly addressed and incited unrelated groups to attempt the hostile overtaking of our sovereign government, it is certain to happen again. And the next Treasonous leader will surely learn from tRump's mistakes.

(12,217 posts)Those POSes were damned lucky that the response was so late and non-aggressive. It was not beyond the realm of possibility that overwhelming force might have been deployed, on a "one warning, then start shooting" basis. Or is it just Republicans who get to threaten mayhem and death?
