General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLet's compare the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch with the 2021 attempted coup, shall we ?
BHP got Hitler thrown in prison for only 9 months.
So far, none of the enabling Congresscritters have seen prison. None. Will any ? They should, but we shall see.
BHP led, ten years later, to Hitler becoming Germany's Chancellor. The rest is horrible history.
Where will the attempted coup lead ? Hopefully to small d democratic reforms, the imprisoning of the participants, the enablers, Trump, and the enabling Senators and Congress-people.
BHP got several Nazis killed. "16 Nazi Party members and four police officers" per Wiki, link down below.
The attempted coup got 5 killed, including 1 officer directly and one more possibly indirectly (a suicide).
The BHP was forcefully and fairly quickly put down by the local authorities.
The attempted coup took HOURS to put down, after foot-dragging/obstruction by Trump/acting SecDef/Secretary of the Army/both Seargant at Arms/not sure about ex-Capitol Hill Police Chief who resigned
Can you think of any more comparisons ? I do hope the attempted coup leads to ONLY positive outcomes and not a horrible one for us.

eta: Oh yes, an obvious comparison. The BHP was a clownish coup attempt staged from a Munich beer hall and never, as far as I know, reached any government buildings. The 2021 attempted coup ? IT WAS ON THE CAPITOL BUILDING, the seat of one of our branches of national government!

294 days of special treatment.
Adolf Hitler enjoyed special treatment while jailed in 1924, being allowed hundreds of visitors sometimes unsupervised including some 30 to 40 to celebrate his 35th birthday, according to a treasure trove of documents that have surfaced from the prison near Munich where he was held.

Hitler didn't eat prison grub. His meals were catered to the quality of restaurant fare by his admirers.
Hitler didn't have to wear a prison uniform. He wore his own clothes, which were repaired and cleaned by admirers.
