REVEALED: Dr. Fauci is the highest paid employee in the federal government with a $417,608-a-year salary and in 2019 he made more than Mike Pence and Dr. Deborah Birx

Dr. Anthony Fauci is the nation’s highest paid federal employee raking in $417,608 in 2019, which is the latest year that federal salary data is available
He made more than the president's $400,000-a-year salary
In 2019 he also made more than Mike Pence, who outranks Fauci in authority, and made $235,100 in salary as well as Dr. Deborah Birx who earned $305,972
If Fauci remains in this position and doesn't get a raise he'll make $2.5million from 2019 through 2024
Data shows that the highest federal employees were medical and dental officers

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9185497/Fauci-highest-paid-federal-government-official-417-000-year-salary.html

That's better than State governments, where the highest paid employee is often the university football coach.

Top tier football coaches are paid more and contribute less to society than Dr. Fauci.

In 40 States, Sports Coaches are the Highest-Paid Public Employees

If he can make that much, he should go to pfizzer. He shouldn't make that ,much in gov't service.

We should pay people enough to attract them, but getting rich off the public trust is not the role of a gov't job.

Let him go into public life. I'm fine with that.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/08/defense-ceo-salaries.html

Because if you think this person isn’t really a government employee, you would be mistaken.

Lockheed (along with the vast majority of defense contractor firms) gets the overwhelming majority of its revenue from Pentagon contracts, which means we as taxpayers completely support their balance sheet.

Complaining about Fauci’s salary but dismissing the salaries of the largest defense contractor CEO’s is disingenuous.

And FWIW, that article is 2 years old.

regardless of how you term their employer. Pay should be based on performance and be relative to the lowest paid employees.

No exec is worth $20M, especially when their company is failing. And double especially when they are making money off the gov't budget.

But that is besides the point. The point is that this gov't employee is over compensated. He isn't worth it given the past year alone.

He's responsible for an organisation that saves tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives a year. If you're not willing to pay market value for competent professionals in key government positions you are putting peoples' lives at risk. If the last four years have taught us nothing else, surely it's taught us that.

He's 80 years old and has likely been making a similar salary since he was appointed as director in 1984. He could retire comfortably if he wanted to. I doubt he's keeping the job for the paycheck.

Do you also think teachers and nurses shouldn't be paid a living wage because they should be doing it for the love?

The OP was comparing his salary with coaches. If you don't like that, take it up with them.

The comparison is important, however. Many of these coaches are indirectly paid for with taxes, as they are with state schools. Whether or not their salaries wind up coming from idiot alums who want to support the sports programs or revenues from the overemphasized and useless competitive sports programs, they are still 100% useless.

Dr. Fauci is incredibly useful. It's sick, whether either is paid for by taxes or not, that sports leeches are paid more than the nation's epidemiologist who literally can be the person that makes it possible to save hundreds of thousands of lives.
