How to steal elections legally
"Republicans should also encourage GOP secretaries of state and state lawmakers to develop a model election code," Rove wrote in a January 20 commentary for the Wall Street Journal entitled, "The Republican Future Starts Now."

(182,727 posts)We have the best election weve ever had I terms of accuracy, timely results, and all with unprecedented logistics required to pull it off. Excellent work done by registrars and the volunteers across the country.
THIS is disturbing. I was not aware of this or that it was happening so rapidly.
The Thursday legislative hearing was one of 14 that are slated in Pennsylvania to review voting laws and administrative rules that were in effect during the 2020 election. A separate GOP-sponsored proposal would create districts for electing state supreme court judges. If put into effect, it could become a judicial gerrymander to recast Pennsylvania's appellate courtsincluding the state's supreme court.
These steps and others, such as Republicans in Wisconsin (and Pennsylvania) talking about changing the way their states choose presidential electors, or Georgia possibly turning the secretary of state from an elective to an appointed office filled by the legislature, seek to change the laws so Republicans can win elections, Daley said.
"Republicans talk a lot about following the rule of law, but what they are trying to do is change the law to make it make it easier to do in 2024 what they were unable to do in 2020," he said.

(16,616 posts)When we vote, we win. That is why Voting Rights reform must be accomplished in the next two years. It is the problem that--if fixed--solves so many other problems in terms of who controls the Executive and Legislative branches of government. Admittedly, it's not a panacea in the sense that we also have to stop the forces that would siphon off Independents and certain disillusioned factions of the Democratic base by attempting to make our country ungovernable (which has become the Republican Long Game, particularly during Democratic administrations).

(43,115 posts)They have some conflicts. Leader Schumer and Pelosi need to pass broad laws to protect voting.

(4,437 posts)They'll be voted out every time. End gerrymandering, voter suppression, and vote purging. Get rid of the electoral college. More guarantee we'll win. They've been stealing elections for a long time.

(21,283 posts)Republicans control many state legislatures where president Biden won. Republicans are trying to eliminate mail in voting mainly because people can vote by mail and not have to stand in line for 8 hours to vote. I know here in Pa. they are trying to eliminate mail in voting, hopefully our Democratic governor can veto it.

(4,437 posts)That means absentee ballots. We need a paper trail. No more of this electronic bs with no receipt. If an atm can give a receipt, we have to make sure a voting machine gives a receipt. That way if a recount is necessary, the paper is there in black and white legible for all to read. The GOP is scared to death of this, cause they know they won't win. As far as state legislatures go, you're correct. We have to get rid of gerrymandering for one thing. Hopefully, the electoral college is on it's last legs, too. And definitely need a paper trail for all elections.

(9,959 posts)They have been working toward permanent one-party rule by Republicans for years. With the redistricting soon to take place, theyll fix their gerrymandering and once again make it difficult for Democrats to gain control of the House. I expect Republicans to take the House majority in 2022 from newly gerrymandered districts because we have a small majority now.
This latest broadside from Rove signals a concerted effort in state Republican legislatures to once again change laws to make to even more difficult for people to vote and also to stack the state courts in their favor. The idea of allowing Republican legislatures to choose a states electors in a different way is rather scary since the different way Republicans would choose is to ignore the will of the voters.
The key to holding on to our democracy is through the state legislatures. I hope Jaime Harrison was serious about a 50-state plan, not just to win the presidency and Congress but also more state houses. We have less than two years to the 2022 election. Its time to get to work.

(12,409 posts)Why is it that with the system so vulnerable the Democratic leadership has not jumped on this like flies on shit?
Given all the problems that rose to the surface this last election why have they not come up with a plan to do away with Republican manipulation?
Will we just be playing defense against whatever the Reps come up with or are we going to bring the issue to the people?
