https://amp.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article248608500.htmlNorth Carolina state Sen. Jeff Jackson is expected to announce today that he is running for the U.S. Senate in 2022, the latest candidate to enter what could be a large field to replace outgoing Sen. Richard Burr.
Jackson, a 38-year-old Democrat from Charlotte, is in his fourth term in the state Senate. A former Gaston County prosecutor, Jackson is a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve and an Afghanistan war veteran.

(8,029 posts)I'm from NC, and I don't know anything about him. But we absolutely have to get a democrat elected to the senate this time.

(1,142 posts)Laura Trump or is it considered unlikely with his brand in the state it's in?
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/19/lara-trump-north-carolina-senate-seat-438447
Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, is considering a Senate run in North Carolina, according to two people familiar with her plans.
She is looking at a possible run in 2022, as Republican Sen. Richard Burrs term comes to a close. Burr has said he will not seek reelection after more than 15 years in office.
Though historically Republican and going for the president this year, North Carolina has increasingly emerged as a swing state, with Trump winning by slightly over than 1 percentage point considerably closer than in 2016.

(7,278 posts)Just read about him in the link. What disturbs me is that he wanted to run in 2020 but Schumer said no, because Cunningham.
Then it's reported in the article that Schumer discouraged Jackson's intention to hold town halls, but instead told him to bunker down off radar and raise money instead.

(7,278 posts)I thought I read a few months ago she intended to run for Congress in some super red district. I forget where exactly.
But running for the U.S. Senate seat. It's been clear that she's managed to stay off the radar while her father in laws presidency went down in flames, and running for Congress I thought would be bad enough. The stakes were already incredibly high, but now it's jacked upped significantly.

(59,501 posts)At this point, we know that the Trump campaign paid her a salary far beyond what even a high profile qualified person would get -- and no one has suggested her qualifications - other than being married to a Trump -- warrant that. In addition, it is very possible her husband will be dealing with legal problems. He already has some very major negatives.
No one knows how the next year will play out for Republicans. One very real possibility is that they turn on the messenger (Trump) while doubling down on the message (essentially white nationalism and a bizarre idea that God supported Trump) A second possibility is blaming the people around Trump - including people like Lara and Eric. (Easily done just by pointing out that the waste of money AND the stories of how money was misused could be said to have had an impact -- lesser negatives have been blamed in past elections) If either of these happen, she will be poison to many people.
One question for North Carolinians, will the fact that she has not lived there since she was young matter? (I have lived in states where it wouldn't - ie NJ, and states where it very likely would - VT, where the Democratic Lt Governor in debates, ads etc made constant reference to being a 4th generation Vermonter at least in the primary.

(7,278 posts)We are observing a political dynamic in our country revealing supporters of this Cult leader willing ignore any and all crimes this family commits as being perfectly acceptable.
If this changes in the next year, that will at least reaffirm something resembling a rational, sane and functioning democracy.

Are you saying that Jackson will lose? Based on what?
Since both of my state reps are sorry Republicans, I follow Jackson on Facebook. He often posts updates about what is going on in the legislature in Raleigh. He's a great communicator and very personable.

(2,753 posts)That is mistake we keep making over and over. Our candidates need to be out early defining their selves to the electorate before the Republicans define us on their terms.

(1,278 posts)I don't know him personally, as I don't know any current pol here in Mecklenburg. I'm on his list and have been following him for a few years. He is a good North Carolina Democrat along the lines of Governor Roy Cooper, not particularly liberal, but I think just right for NC. He is going places.
