Matthew Chapman
January 26, 2021
On Tuesday, Business Insider reported that former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen do not have a permanent residence since leaving the vice president's mansion and though Republicans close to the couple aren't exactly sure of their current living arrangements, they believe the former second couple is "couch-surfing" at the residences of various Indiana officials.
Per the report, the Pences are in a precarious position since leaving office.
Furthermore, the report noted, Pence has essentially been cut off from all contact with former President Donald Trump, who was enraged by his refusal to try to overturn the election results during congressional certification. Pence, for his part, is reportedly resentful that Trump put his life in danger.

(39,124 posts)Imagine, being a self-described "man of God" yet becoming the slavish yes man to the most amoral, corrupt, and treasonous president in US history for 4 long years only to be betrayed at the end and find that not only is your political career likely over but your very life is in danger from the cult that very same dictator wannabe unleashed on you. Yeow.
What colossal miscalculation. But you reap what you sow, buddy.
feel sorry for him. He was such a religious man supposedly and to even consider being trumps vice-president I will never understand. He knew what trump was like and yet he said yes to trashy, corrupt trump. He also apparently was so sure they would get a second term, he made no plans on where he was going to live if they didnt win. What a fool.

I know that Pence stepped in during the post election pre inauguration interim because Trump totally abandoned the country, but did it occur to him that on January 20 he wasn't going to be able to live at the Naval Observatory anymore?

(5,062 posts)I am surprised anyone will let him in. Sounds like he had a three day kegger at the Naval Observatory and trashed it so that the Harris family couldn't move in.
I am pretty sure he had a month's free stay at the Trump International with hooker coupons from Donnie boy if he went rogue in the electoral college certification on 1/6 but he blew that. It's hard when you don't have a spine-- can't ever stand up to your insane boss for the good of the nation during a pandemic and, lucky for us, also don't have it to trash the Constitution. Good riddance and hope all the spare beds and couches in Indiana are lumpy and have bed bugs.

(18,536 posts)by Trump . . . I'm no fan, but credit where credit is due . . . he didn't even come close to overturning the election as Trump had suggested/instructed . . . doesn't offset four years of being a Trump toady, but it does show that at least he's capable of thinking for himself and standing up to intense pressure from POTUS . . . all while knowing that he could be thrown under the closest bus (which he was) . . . just a thought . . .

The article from forbes would seem to indicate that he planned or was able to save for retirement about a poorly as a typically working dunce like myself. I find myself almost taking pity on him.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2019/07/18/how-mike-pence-became-a-millionaire-from-government-pensions/
He has about a million in assets that are due to mainly the combined pensions of $35k/year from serving as Governor of Indiana and $50k/year total from his time in congress and VP. So $85k pension in retirement isn't chump change but it's not big $$ either. The Pences also have some significant parent plus student loans of between $100k and $245k that they took out for the 3 kids. I have some for my 3 as well.
So it looks like Pence is probably not your typical crooked republican and he and the wife seem like decent parents.
Then again he probably stands a chance of getting a book deal or two and will probably have employment opportunties in right radio etc..

That was the first thought that came to mind.
Pence is toxic. Who would want to have him anywhere near them? The stench of Trump will rub off on anyone who helps him.

(16,398 posts)He hasn't paid rent, a mortgage, light bill, cable, heat, water, home taxes, home repairs, or a phone bill in 8 years. That has all been provided to him by the government.
His salary for the past 4 years 230,700 (922,800.) His salary as Gov he earned 111.688. (446,752.)
If he can't buy himself a house with that salary, he can live in a tent.

(55,334 posts)People forget, but Pence started off as an on-air RW talkshow host. He's not been successful in business, just successful in chatter. He's the radio version, the cut-rate version, of a reality show star.
Surely the death threats would ebb after a while. Maybe the FBI can put him in a WPP. His face is forgettable enough.
