January 27, 2021 at 1:56 pm EST By Taegan Goddard
At the same time, a far less visible transition was taking place: the quiet dismissal of holdovers from the Trump administration, who have been asked to clean out their offices immediately, whatever the eventual legal consequences.
If there has been a single defining feature of the first week of the Biden administration, it has been the blistering pace at which the new president has put his mark on what President Donald J. Trump dismissed as the hostile Deep State and tried so hard to dismantle.

(18,486 posts)getting their replacements lined up so they have some stability. And most of the people who could replace them as acting were probably also appointed by Trump.
And, if it's any consolation, all of the USAs now report to Biden's DOJ and can't make a move without HQ's approval, so they can't do any damage, so there 's no need to rush - at least there's no need to wipe everyone out one week in.

(17,376 posts)Joe Biden is the perfect person for the time. He kind of reminds me of Harry Truman though Harry was a bit before my time. In another time, Joe might not be the person he is now, but I cant think of anyone who would be better.
Mr Biden is far, far better prepared to be president than Mr Truman was.

(2,193 posts)Without which our country couldn't function. These dedicated civil servants give our nation stability, continuity and reliability, building domestic and international alliances, as well as trust in government. Unfortunately for Trump, the vast majority of them swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, and not him - and that's why he raged against the deep state so. Now that President Biden, who also took an oath to defend the Constitution, and is taking it seriously, is in the White House, he can make common cause with those dedicated career civil servants of the "deep state".

The tone was set before Mr. Biden was sworn in. On the Saturday evening before the inauguration, Michael Ellis, a Trump loyalist, was installed as general counsel of the National Security Agency on the orders of Mr. Trumps acting defense secretary. It was a classic case of burrowing a political appointee into the bureaucracy in a new, nonpolitical job classification that would make it hard to fire him.
But after Mr. Biden became president, Mr. Ellis was immediately placed on administrative leave while the National Security Agencys inspector general examined the circumstances of how he was chosen. Now it is unclear if Mr. Ellis will ever serve in the job.
The Trump administration made a similar attempt to burrow officials into the United States Agency for Global Media, which broadcasts around the world, with similar results. ... Some officials were fired outright. The Biden team told Victoria Coates, a former Trump national security official who was made the head of the governments Middle East Broadcasting Networks in the last days of the administration, that it did not care that her contract called for her to serve at least two years and that she could not be removed unless she was convicted of a felony. Her email was cut off at the end of last week in what she called a shocking repudiation of President Bidens call for unity and reconciliation.
In every department, there is already a Biden team on the ground, including those like the hollowed-out Housing and Urban Development, which was run for the past four years by a disengaged secretary, Ben Carson, and a group of ideologically oriented appointees.
