Tens of thousands of Republicans are fleeing from GOP in nationwide exodus after deadly Capitol riot

(Independent UK) A nationwide exodus has reportedly begun to take shape within the Republican Party following the deadly pro-Trump attacks on the US Capitol, with tens of thousands of GOP members officially switching parties after the riots.

The Arizona Republican Party has lost more than 9,000 members in the wake of the violence, CNN reported, as it continued to face a backlash for promoting rightwing conspiracies and igniting public feuds with Governor Doug Ducey, former Senator Jeff Flake and Cindy McCain.

Republicans in Arizona have also lost both Senate seats to Democratic Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly, while a majority of voters in the state cast ballots for the Democratic ticket in the 2020 presidential elections – the first time since 1996.

Meanwhile in Pennsylvania, the office for the Secretary of State reported nearly 10,000 Republican voters had changed their party affiliation in January, with nearly one-third of those voters switching to the Democratic Party. ............(more)

There were some less-than-cult magats who believed the GOP are always better for finances or religion. Well, the riot blew those away.

I would also expect many racists object to the blatant white supremacy hard-liners who are willing to overthrow democracy for hate.

Call them hat-lite. They may harbor resentment but also still believe in government.

We're splitting hairs, here, but I do think it's permanent. The gop isn't regaining those voters, ever. But we still need to consider them as independent votes, and strategize with them in mind.

many more idiots will take their place. The Republican primaries of 2022, 2024, 2026 will continue to promote unqualified morons that the Republican base chooses as their federal leadership.

The conservatives I have talked to seem to think the Capitol assault was no big deal and career politicians are blowing it all out of proportion.
