A Washington state hospital that prioritized donors on its vaccination list acknowledged Wednesday that it was a mistake to not offer up the doses to the general community.
Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue sent an email to almost 4,000 people last week to tell them about 500 new vaccination appointments and offering them a special access code. Among those on the email list were volunteers, retired nurses and physicians, all employees and about 100 donors from our Foundation database, the hospital said.
We recognize we made a mistake by including a subset of our donors and by not adopting a broader outreach strategy to fill these appointments, and we apologize, Overlake president and CEO J. Michael Marsh said in a statement.
Our intent and commitment has always been to administer every vaccine made available to us safely, appropriately, and efficiently.
