9. It's amazing to me still that a large part of our population still don't seemingly understand the...

nature of the Internet, the digital world we live in today. When I started in the telephone world in the 70s, there was no concept of the Internet or the digital world that was to come, and they freaked out. Calls that could literally last forever? No way! Calls that you truly wouldn't know the true originating or terminating points? No way!

No wonder that there's a whole segment of our population that is still in the dumps, still living in the 1970s, unaware of the technologies that swirl around us, complacent in their deliberate ignorance (more afraid than ignorant). Believe me, I sat in numerous meetings w/ the voice telephone people in the 1970s, while we tried to explain the technologies to them, and they were freaked out. At least I made a name for myself, and set some Internet standards that still stand today, w/ my name on them. They're obscure, relatively unknown, but my nephew ran across one of them (a call recording standard) and noticed my name on it. It was a nice reminder to this younger generation of the role that many of us old timers played in development of the Internet, and the role it has today.
