RNC invites Trump to speak at spring meeting

The Republican National Committee is planning to invite former President Donald Trump to its upcoming spring donor meeting, according to a person familiar with preparations for the event.

Trump has yet to make a public appearance since leaving the White House earlier this month, and he has also been absent from Twitter, which banned him following the Jan. 6 insurrection. A Trump spokesperson did not respond to an inquiry about whether Trump would attend the RNC meeting.

It has not been decided where in Palm Beach the April donor retreat will take place. But people familiar with the planning say it will not be at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump has remained widely popular with Republican donors even after the Capitol siege, though some have blamed him for helping to incite the riot with his failed effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel sent an email earlier this month to party givers in which she condemned the riot. The message drew between 400 and 500 responses, with the vast majority criticizing the event but also insisting the party stand by Trump.
