... and our governor is the notorious Ron "Death Sentence" DeSantis!
Pam Keith, Esq.
@PamKeithFL
You heard it here first:
If we do not CONTAIN Trump by impeachment or indictment, in a few months he will start to run a shadow government from Mar-a-Lago and at least a dozen governors will start to take their orders from HIM.
He will claim he is the legitimate President & we will be RIGHT BACK on the path yo civil war that the extreme right has been pushing for.
Our squeamishness serves NO ONE & NOTHING GOOD!
We need an AG right now, and we need indictments on EVERY GOP member who participated.
This WILL not get contained any other way.

(16,385 posts)Senate and House Repubs will leave DC for Mar-a-Lago and we can actually get things done in Washington. Sounds good to me. In all seriousness, Trump needs to face justice for his crimes.

(28,836 posts)They didn't take orders from him when he was president. They're not going to start now. GOP governors love to run the show and aren't about to let Trump tell them how to run their states.
On a side note, impeachment (she obviously means conviction, not impeachment) isn't going to "contain" Trump. She appears to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the process and available remedies. In that, she's not alone.

(3,282 posts)I don't really care if Trump is larping in Florida. He has no power. I would rather just forget he exists that sit here and worry about him.
The best way to deal with Trump is to ignore him now.

BGBD
(3,282 posts)that isn't already doing everything he'd want them to do anyway? What could he order them to do?
He wasn't even capable of leading as President. Why does anyone think he could run a "shadow" government?
TwilightZone
(28,836 posts)I find the whole concept of him running a shadow government hilarious.
I guess it's the deep state, but in reverse.
That's what I was thinking too.
Turin_C3PO
(16,385 posts)If they were stupid and pledged loyalty to Trump then all federal money would be cut off. The governors would come crawling back. Trump has no official power. The entire government apparatus aka the deep state does not and will not answer to him.

(63,221 posts)I am optimistically hoping that he is imprisoned, mentally or physically incapacitated or dead within the near future.
But if none of those things happen, he is a very dangerous person and needs to be neutralized by whatever means possible.
We can't take a risk with someone like him. He is a cult figure and has too many people under his spell.
Turin_C3PO
(16,385 posts)His approval rating is only at 29%. Hell always have his vile cult but he wont ever become President again. That doesnt change the fact that his orange ass should spend time in prison.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)But he can still wreak a lot of havoc in the meantime.
And I do think there is a good chance that he could spend some time in prison. There are the state charges from which he can not be pardoned. And there are a lot of legal people out there who would love nothing better than to see him destroyed. I am hoping that his luck has finally run out.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)He didn't pardon himself. If he did it "secretly" he'd still have had to make it known to DoJ and we'd have learned about it by now.
Thomas Hurt
(13,982 posts)His hold over the RWNJs has diminished. He is still polling as the second coming of Jesus and Reagan.
He has shed some of the nutjobs but we are far from out of the woods.
He was President then and his power was an ability to hamstring the defense and response to those people.
He can't do that as a civilian. He could tell them to do it again and this time they run into a buzzsaw halfway down Pennsylvania Ave.

(7,604 posts)jurisdictions just do their jobs and work the levers of justice. We should be expecting that grand juries have already been formed and are investigating Trump's crimes and those of others in his sphere.
Some time ago, Louise Mensch posted a belief, based upon her contacts, that Trump is already the subject of a sealed indictment at the SDNY. That's not been verified by the press, but it's a likelihood that she had good sources.

(8,010 posts)this is likely true. The trama we have experienced as a country is not over. Unfortanately, he who shall not be named is only a symptom of a more serious disease.
Part of me thinks just go ahead ... what will have happened is that states that take orders from this alignment have essentially succeeded. I don't know where this leads but part of me thinks that we should just say to hell with them. Let them go. Maybe holdling the Union together in the civil war was actually a mistake. Obviously, sane people living in these states are then in jeopardy but if it becomes obvious that they are seditionists against the Union, then maybe a real rejection of this failed philosophy will prevail.

(6,066 posts)What to expect: Trump will soon be calling himself the "Real President" from the sidelines
After the majority of GOP House Reps support Trump in his quixotic bid to steal the election, with the outcome that Trump loses again, what will Trump do?
I think he will call himself the "real President Trump" from the sidelines and order his GOP minions not to cooperate with President Biden. He will be the GOP's Simple Simon, calling the shots. Most of the cowards in the GOP will follow his every whim. He will then run for his "third term" in 2024-- too bad for the GOP hopefuls like Senator Hawley. Expect lots of rallies from the "real Airforce One"-- a replica that will have to be created by his rich billionaire friends.
I wonder if he will go as far as to have the real State of the Union Address etc. ? Probably.
Why? His huge ego demands that he be the "leader" and that means he will never, ever admit he lost.

(1,876 posts)I've been saying this since the insurrection. McCarthy, Graham, and McConnell's behavior have solidified my view on this. His cult will cling to the fact that he still has influence within the party as a sign that he is working on a plan to get rid of the deep state and make his grand comeback. They'll become more emboldened and continue their misdeeds.
