Just a quick question. SO got laid off, so we will be losing health coverage. Looking to apply to Obamacare, but when i typed it into the search, plenty of websites popped up. Should we start at healthcare.gov (official site?) or healthcare.org (maybe also official gov site, but not sure)? I also know that thanks to Biden and Harris, it will be opening up again on 2/15. Thank you for any help, it is appreciated.

(823 posts)it looks confusing at first but stick with it and it will become clear. Further, very carefully compare what is available and what is best for your needs...they are not all the same and finding that out takes a lot of patience on your part. Cheap is not always best here, sometimes if you pay a bit more the coverage and costs can be dramatically different. Also, know the doctors/system you prefer, that makes it much simpler. Good luck

Depends on your state, you may have to go to their website, but start with Healthcare.gov
Not sure if they still have navigators, when it first started met up with one who help me with signing up.

(86,005 posts)...was referred to my state site.
I crapped out on the confusing site after waiting in limbo for about two months with 'pending' beside my info. Still says 'pending' I think, even after they sent the confusing email of rejection.
I'm going to take a fresh stab at it after President Biden's announcement yesterday.

(35,445 posts)Make sure that it's the official state site. They should have a list of health insurance companies that you can choose from.

(4,450 posts)I live in a small community that has a non-profit hospital. I gave them a call and they connected me to a patient-advocate employee who agreed to meet, for free, and help us navigate the ACA website and choose what coverage we wanted. It was great to be able to talk to someone who had a good understanding of ACA and how it works.

(81 posts)We went to the .gov site, and also called their number and got connected pretty close to right away with a service rep. Still working on it. Unfortunately, i live in one of the states that has refused to set up its own marketplace (thanks, repukes).
You all are the best.

(7,006 posts)You don't just have to just (unless you want to) "Go to the Government ACA Site".
Two reasons in particular.
1). Most have issues avoiding the higher deductibles. Reason being is they are not on the site often unlike a ACA Certified Agent who is.
2). Some have issues placing a higher income on the site which can result in higher deductibles or not the most optimal plan options.
We at MRW Solutions Group can for no obligation look now for a ACA Plan for you or your family that is optimal based on our experience signing up many individuals and families for ACA related plan options. There is NO COST to do so outside of what a individual might pay for their plan themselves. Our recommendations from clients is also available on our site to review.
We are Licensed Independent Insurance Agents in the States of MI, TX, OH, VA, SC. If you live in another state, we can connect you with a Licensed Independent Insurance Agent in your state also.

(68,632 posts)almost free...some may be free in fact. My daughter broke both her ankles and could not work...she was in school at the time and qualified for Medicaid expansion in Ohio...it paid for everything and I don't think there was any premium. Now Trump has messed it up somewhat but Biden has put in some fixes with EO.
