Kevin McCarthy Takes Heat From Democrats over Donald Trump Meeting

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has drawn criticism from Democrat lawmakers over his Florida meeting with Donald Trump in which they discussed the former president backing GOP candidates in 2022.

McCarthy and Trump met on Thursday and discussed the latter's continued support for Republicans as they look to flip the Senate and House next year.

McCarthy said in a statement following the meeting: "A united conservative movement will strengthen the bonds of our citizens and uphold the freedoms our country was founded on."

It comes just weeks after the Capitol riot, with Trump's actions around the event having been widely condemned. McCarthy himself previously said that Trump bears responsibility for the incidents of that day.

2. Let me play amateur editor here . . .

Instead of "It comes just weeks after the Capitol riot . . ." can we re-cast that introductory phrase? In place of "just weeks," which while accurate, is kind of imprecise. Let's say, "less than a month." Gives it a little more immediacy and makes McCarthy's obeisant pilgrimage a little more egregious. Also, in place of "after the Capitol riot," can we say "after then-President Trump sicced an armed violent mob on Congress to interrupt the certification of the election of Joe Biden." A bit wordier, I'll grant you, but again illustrates the cravenness of McCarthy's actions.

So now it reads, "It comes less than a month after then-President Trump sicced an armed violent mob on Congress to interrupt the certification of the election of Joe Biden." Then the story can leave off that "widely condemned" mealy-mouthed description of Trump's actions.

McCarthy cares about that. He's all in it to be House Speaker and he has sold his soul to the devils (plural). I was listening to Randi Rhodes podcast from yesterday apparently Greene promised him he could get monetary donations from "the base". I wouldn't doubt it at all.

Power and money is what fuels the traitors. And apparently McCarthy is bending to Qanon's sick wishes thus having Greene sitting on the Education Committee after all her derogatory comments. He won't be getting away from Qanon anytime soon.
