A close friend of mine who is white and married to a black woman told me that being married to her taught him so much more about race than he realized.
"Because of her, you now have a better idea of what it's like to be black?" I asked.
"No," he said. "I still have no idea what it's like to be black. But because of her, I have a much better understanding of what it means to be white."

(937 posts)taken as just the way of life. He's ALWAYS felt more welcomed & accepted by POC but it wasn't until he married me that he realised that things were so much different when you are able to see first hand how much more different we're seen & perceived when a member of a swirled family.
He's Bohemian Czech from central Texas & it wasn't until he left that area via the USAF, travelling the world & finally settling here in Northern California that he really & truly understood the pathology of White privilege & racism.
