Apparently, some are claiming that the Democratic party has lost the "Common Man." The problem with that is that they're only talking about the "Common White Man." In the 2020 November election, the real "Common Man" gave Joe Biden more than 8 million votes in excess of what Trump received.
The "Common Man" voted for Biden in "numbers too big to ignore." Who didn't vote for Biden? A bunch of racist, poorly educated white men. That's who. Of course, I include women in this. "Common Man" is a generic term that really has no meaning any longer, and that is now used to describe only one sector of the population - Stupid White People.
The Democratic Party has NOT lost the "Common Man." The "Common Man" turned out and voted for Joe Biden, our President.

(16,385 posts)by reading some here and in the media youd get the impression that all 81 million Biden voters are out of touch elitists. Ridiculous.

(35,820 posts)Biden is applying all his might, political savvy and know how and is moving forward at break neck speed..but hey why focus on that when you can have regular doses of doom and gloom??!!

(151,191 posts)are to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD). They are here in good times and in bad times. Some post frequently; others post only rarely, but they are always among us. Some are familiar to most regular DU readers. Others are newcomers or old-timers who only post occasionally and whose names are not recognized by casual users of DU.
But, they are here. They have always been here. They probably always will be here.

(16,385 posts)I admit I indulge in it too but its important to keep things in their proper perspective which is that we have Biden and his team in the Oval Office and we control the Senate and House. Plus, the DOJ and FBI are back in good hands and will do their best to bring the hammer down on domestic right wing terrorists.

(7,604 posts)I don't get where the "doom and gloom" comes out of the MM's comments.
The "common man" issue, when depicted as a "racial" demographic, is clearly debatable.
I've often used "commoners" in my writing to refer to ANYONE who knows what it's like to work for a living and who anticipates his/her next paycheck with a sense of relief. We know who we are, skin color notwithstanding.
I know that white-skinned people hold an unsteady position of privilege among the general population that only marginally gives them any benefit. It's mostly perception and a higher per capita income, but it's not a game changer. Wage earners are mostly in the same socioeconomic bucket with variations based on location and local economic pressures.
But that's a whole different topic than "doom and gloom."

(16,385 posts)is that when media talks about the common man what they mean is non-urban, uneducated, white voters. They should be more specific since thats clearly who theyre referencing.

(151,191 posts)DU juries are pretty unpredictable. The tendency is to leave things that aren't blatantly in violation of them. That's fine with me. If I disagree with a post, I comment. I can do that.
We can discuss any issue here. If someone posts something that is incorrect, biased, or just plain wrong, any other DUer can point that out. It is better to have a broad discussion than a very narrow one that doesn't raise any objections, it seems to me.

(3,748 posts)That article was so poorly written. It should have included key identifiers like white uneducated males, racists, and people who harbor toxic masculinity. It should have discussed the anti intellectual movement and the education disparities. It was such an overly simplistic and inaccurate shotty piece.

(151,191 posts)I received no answer.
It was either written by the poster or by someone else. No link was provided to its source, so I assume it was written by the poster, but I could be wrong. So, I asked, but there has been no response.
In fact, the original poster never returned to the thread to address any of the replies. That's why I started a new thread.
