The proceedings are always secret, but sometimes the very existence of the grand jury is secret, too

Of course a witness appearing before them can talk about to some extent, but the testimony is sealed.
Not a lawyer but that is what I have seen in the past. We only know about the nys grand jury because cohen talked about it. And we assume the feds must have one in the isurection cases because they said indictments are coming.
