Oliver Darcy writes: "If you ever want to understand where the Republican Party is or where it's going, just pay attention to what is happening in right-wing media. Watch a few hours of Fox, listen to a few hours of talk-radio, and browse a few sites like Breitbart and The Gateway Pundit. That will give you a crystal clear indication of the GOP's current state. And if you do that today, you'll quickly observe that there is no real 'fight' for the soul of the Republican Party taking place, despite the huge amount of news coverage suggesting so. The party was remade in Trump's image over the last four years and it remains in his image. All the prominent right-wing media figures are solidly in the MAGA camp..."
That war ended a while ago.

(96,882 posts)Yes, I understand what hes saying; and a large proportion of identified Republicans would t Id to agreee with the Trump/QANON mantra. But there are leadership Republicans and never-Trumpers who dont agree and can see the inevitable outcome if the Party doesnt return to sanity.

(15,424 posts)They literally are doing nothing about MTG while they are trying to run Liz Chaney, LIZ CHANEY, out of congress.
Tom Rice, one of the R House reps who voted for impeachment was censured by his state party.
Jeff Flake, Cindy McCain and their right wing governor were censured by the part in Arizona.
All but 5 R senators voted to say that the jackass should not be convicted.

(56,198 posts)His sole political qualification was that he was an avid fox news viewer. That's it. Everything he understood about the world came from Fox News.
So of course the right-wing media still loves him. How can they not? He's their baby.

(31,261 posts)Really sane republicans bailed out of that party more than four years ago. The sorta sane ones stayed until the stink became so unbearable that they had to jump ship and either vote for President Biden or leave the for president oval blank. The test will be whether those groups of republicans and former republicans start voting democrat in down ballot races, if they do, that shuts off the oxygen to the GOP.
Right now, the Republican Party is a concentration of white supremacists and lunatics.

(96,944 posts)They made that choice a long time ago. They've been the "Lost Cause" ideology party since.
Just as the Democratic Party made a choice when it chose the path of Civil Rights.
Choices matter.

(31,155 posts)don't want anything to do with this crap. So if the GOP doesn't come to it's senses it will begin to die. They won't be able to win elections in moderate districts.

It may not be quite 100% TRumplicon, but it's close enough to make the never-trumper republicans almost irrelevant, at this point in time.
