Tennessee Bureau of Investigation

After a weeklong manhunt, authorities have found the body of a 70-year-old man wanted in the slaying of two Tennessee duck hunters. David Vowell was discovered in Reelfoot Lake, the same body of water where he allegedly ambushed Zachery Grooms, 25, and Chance Black, 26, on Monday. The victims were in a duck blind when Vowell allegedly drove his boat in and opened fire, according to the Jackson Sun. A third hunter knocked out Vowell but told police that as he tried to get the victims to safety, he saw the gunman walking toward the riverbank. Vowell, who owned a lumber company and had no criminal record, was facing first-degree murder charges. His cause of death has not been released.

Crabtree said the three went to hunt around 6 a.m. Around 9, a boat approached the blind with David Vowell inside. He approached and asked if he could hunt out of the blind, and they said yes.

Crabtree said Vowell was in the process of getting out of his boat, and Crabtree thought it odd that Vowell was loading his gun, because normally you don’t load your gun until you get to your hunting position.

According to Thomas, Crabtree said he turned around and heard a gunshot. He saw Zach Grooms was shot in the chest with a shotgun and shortly after that, Chance Black was shot in the side.

Crabtree managed to wrestle the gun away from Vowell, then threw the gun in the water and knocked Vowell out of the boat he was in.

Crabtree then took off to shore to get help and last saw Vowell standing in waist-deep water.

Literally they fight and argue over the duck hunting blinds there. It's a thing that's been going on for years and not just at reelfoot

It used to happen to me duck hunting back home. Duck hunters are notorious for fighting over spots

Deer hunters too to some extent, remember that shooting in Wisconsin that left 5 people dead

That's why I hunt alone and far far away from other people. The only folks I run into are border patrol agents. They are armed and unfriendly but not hunting lol. Well not hunting game anyway

it makes one wonder if a lot of those hunting shooting deaths we read about are actually hunting accidents as claimed.

Many a time I wonder how the hunter “thought” he was shooting a deer/moose/bear, etc, and not his “hunting partner” or some other poor soul.
