Michael McAuliff @mmcauliffNEWS: Schumer throws cold water on GOP group of 10's $600B COVID proposal: "They should negotiate with us, not make a take-it-or-leave-it offer," Schumer tells me. "It doesn't have any state and local money in it. Look at that, just as one thing."
Story coming soon.
Michael McAuliff @mmcauliff 1h
Schumer says Dems will go ahead with reconciliation if they have to, but says Republicans can still make it bipartisan, as they did in the past passing earned income tax credits and the State Childrens' Health Insurance Program.

And music to progressives' ears: Schumer says Dems are not going to repeat the mistakes the Obama administration made with the 2009 financial rescue package and Obamacare in giving Republicans power to hamstring the administration's efforts.

(63,221 posts)I'm sorry, I am a loyal democrat, but I have to say that she is expressing the frustrations that many of us have. It's time for them to stop coming to a gun fight with a fucking Q-tip. Hopefully this is an indication that Schumer plans to change course and stop appeasing them.

Get angry at republicans not democrats.

(11,840 posts)It would be pointless being angry at repubs, we know they dont care about anything or anyone but the one percent
Actually if we have to pass it thru reconciliation we might as well add a tax increase for corporations

(2,640 posts)Last week, I posted that I thought Chuck Schumer was too nice. I take it back. Chuck is doing a great job of standing up to those insufferable, hold-their-breath-till-they-get-their-way Republicans.
You go, Chuck! Keep it up!

(82,849 posts)Republicans can get on the bus or under it. Their choice. And if their suspiciously-timed newfound concern for the budget needs to be addressed, just repeal the last round of tax cuts, which was not passed in that holy bipartisan fashion.

(100,133 posts)When Joe said the bill would have to pass as a unit and was not going to be broken apart piecemeal, I believed him. The Repubs just had to test to make sure it was true, and I think thats all this offer was: a test to see if the bill could be broken apart for the bits to be haggled over.

(693 posts)stall and screw the whole process up. They used the same ploy in 2009, as well as on numerous other occasions. They pretend that they want to negotiate, but have no intention of actually doing so.

Remind them of how giant tax cuts for the wealthiest are never too expensive for Rs. How investigations of their opponents for far less than seditionist conspiracy is never too time-consuming or "divisive" for Rs.
Make it clear just how hypocritical and craven Rs are, while doing big things for the people.
