Actually it feels kind of civil as we have a common dislike for the craziness in the cult.
The never Trumpers appear to be backing off their 2nd amendment stance now that they too feel threatened by the gun totters themselves. They have been embarrassed by the evangelical prophecies for Trump to be where religion hardly ever enters into our conversations anymore. In fact they feel so ashamed that I dont have the heart to even talk about politics to them. It is almost as if they are about to come out and say that I have been right all of these years and they apologize.... but since I am not one to run salt in their wounds, I am smiling much more these days.

(11,949 posts)I left the republicans before Trump, but it is not a Paul on the road to Damascus thing. I saw one lie. And my FDR Democratic father, who never agreed with my politics always warned that one lie means there are more.
With me it was studying German in high school. Not just language but culture. In the early 80s Germans earned something like 1/2 of Americans. I saw that as a representation of our superior system. Now they generally earn more. As do many Northern Europeans. Or at least have a better lifestyle. Once I saw that the social Democratic systems made peoples lives better I could no longer hold onto my beliefs.
Of course it took traveling overseas to cement my change to a social democrat. I welcome any republican not supporting the republicans.

(17,148 posts)On a 'great unity'.
I love the never trumpers, TLP, Meidas touch and all of those right wingers who want to discard trump and return to a more civil form of politics.
But, it is their responsibility to tamp down and defuse the radical elements that lay claim to representing the GOP. These insurrectionists need to be left without a party to back them.
At the moment, not all of the GOP is disavowing them.
