What documents with your SS is considered a...

legal document.

It's on my college diploma, my GED. Think is on my Birth Certificate, need to look.

Yeah, getting bothered about my SS card....

What else can I look at to see if my number is on it. They want something that is a legal document. They are already told me my diploma is a no go.

When your birth certificate is required, the one from the hospital won't be good enough.
You will need an official certificate of birth from the county or state where you were born.

It's like they love to cause people issues. It's like their hobby.

The SSN section is near the bottom of the chart, it lists all acceptable docs/IDs

https://www.hud.gov/sites/documents/DOC_35766.DOC

(I tried to take a screenshot shot of the SSN section but it didn’t come out well. The print was all blurry)

Edit 2: Aha! Copy-Paste worked!

• Original Social Security card
• Driver’s license with SSN
• Identification card issued by a federal, State, or local agency, a medical insurance provider, or an employer or trade union.
• Earnings statements on payroll stubs
• Bank statement
• Form 1099
• Benefit award letter
• Retirement benefit letter
• Life insurance policy
• Court records

Not sure they take walk-ins because of covid, but worth a shot. With your other IDs seems they should be able to print you a card. Did you call SS?

Edited: never mind. Googled and face-to-face not possible.

Back when the state I then lived in wanted to use your SS# as your drivers license, they did fortunately give the choice of opting out. Which I did.

When I went to renew my current DL last year, I got a non Real ID one. I have had a valid passport for over 50 years now, and I can use that the next time I want to fly.

And people wonder why identity theft is so common.

Create an account at www.ssa.gov

ask for a ss card replacement to be mailed. Then you get a letter stating you have requested it with your info on it that you can print.

Lost my wallet while moving. Ugh.

The driver’s license replacement was surprisingly easy- they actually took my birth certificate, voter registration card, and an old W2 from 2010(!) as my documents. Crazy.

SS wanted me to mail them my driver’s license. Hell, no! They wouldn’t take a notarized copy, a scan... nothing but my actual license. That is ridiculous! Who on Earth would mail their license to anyone?? I had to make an appointment at the office and that whole ordeal was a frickin’ nightmare. The actual appt with the person at SS took less than 2 min, it was the appt making process and the 4.5 hour wait (with an appt!) that about killed me. Plus, the nearest office was an hour away.

You have to be a live person to get a SS card, not pre-born. One of the requirements, I believe, is showing proof of birthdate. It's been a long time since I got SS number for my kids, but that's what I remember.

If you do not have a Social Security card that was issued by the Social Security Administration, get one as soon as you can. You can apply for a replacement card, and you should, right away. Information on that is available at ssa.gov.

It is one of those documents you should have stored in a safe place always, and should be in your "Grab this if there's a fire or natural disaster" list. Your birth certificate is another one of those essential documents. If you don't have those, you'll be out of luck and in an emergency setting when you need them. BTW, to get a replacement SS card, you will need an official copy of your birth certificate, so get that first if you don't have one.

You only need it occasionally, but when you do, there is no real substitute for having it.
