White House to release state coronavirus reports previously kept out of public view by Trump

(CNN)The transition from the Trump to the Biden administration has brought significant changes to the US Covid-19 strategy, and with it, a new level of transparency.

In addition to thrice-weekly virtual press briefings on the pandemic, the Biden administration is making another key change in its outreach to states. The White House will now be publicly releasing its weekly state-specific Covid-19 reports, which began during the Trump administration in June.

"In our effort to increase transparency, we're releasing public weekly COVID-19 reports with local pandemic data previously only available to states. Take a look at what's happening in your state here," the Biden White House Covid-19 Response Team said in a tweet Friday, linking to HealthData.gov, which provides downloadable reports for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

A White House official told CNN the administration is "committed to being a partner to states for resources and clear guidance" and will "be transparent even when it is not easy or when the truth is difficult."

4. DeSantis Adds Uber Driver/Sports Blogger To Data Analyst Team

Of course, you have Florida really going out of its way to silence Rebekah Jones. But, on top of that, DeSantis has staffed his data analysis team with an uber driving anti-masker, so hopefully the Biden administration can start issuing some consistent data standards so that States do not manipulate the data.

"It's my pleasure to announce publicly that this morning I officially accepted an offer to go work for Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Florida state capitol. I will be doing data analysis on several fronts for them including but not limited to Covid-19 research and other projects."

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Lamb is an Uber-driving conspiracy theorist who has few qualifications, and he acknowledges he is not trained for the job:

“Fact is, I’m not an ‘expert.’ I’m not a doctor, epidemiologist, virologist or scientist,” Lamb, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, wrote on a website for a subscribers-only podcast he hosts about the coronavirus. “I also don’t need to be. Experts don’t have all the answers, and we’ve learned that the hard way.”

It is unknown why DeSantis hired him for the position. A starting date has not been released by the governor's office.
