A Denton County man who allegedly wore dark sunglasses and a MAGA hat while he stormed the U.S. Capitol last month, and is a member of the "Proud Boys," was arrested on Friday, the FBI says.
Daniel Goodwyn, 32, of Corinth, is charged with knowingly entering a restricted building and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
He is at least the eighth person in North Texas to be arrested in the Jan. 6 riot following a rally by former President Donald Trump. It happened as Congress was certifying the presidential election results.

(15,933 posts)I hope so that would add a conspiracy charge to their arrest.

(57,073 posts)Conspiracy charge would be great if they did!
Budi
(15,325 posts)Is that a valid charge? What would it be called?
(I have no idea about the proper legal wording)
Actually all those on Jenna's private flight would be a conspiracy.
A whole plane full!
*Here, not sure if Daniel Goodwyn, 32, of Corinth was on board.
Realtor and radio host Jenna Ryan took a private jet with three others to Washington D.C. to protest the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory over President Donald Trump.

(3,635 posts)in that some black guy selling cigarettes or passing a counterfeit bill gets the 'death penalty by cop' but whites like this who participated in an insurrection are treated and viewed delicately by the law. There needs to be much stronger laws against domestic terrorism, in the way that RICO put an end to the mafia that also used to skirt around laws before it.
emmaverybo
(8,144 posts)these RW extremist groups, though as with organized crime, or foreign terror networks, either new
contenders emerge or they morph.
I am wary about new laws for domestic terrorism. In 2005, FBI
and congress agreed that the #1 domestic terror threat in U.S. was eco-terrorism. ALF+ELF were declared terror groups and using fed laws and The Patriot Act, their members hunted down, search and seizure laws out the window, long sentences ensuing for some, huge resources devoted. Not one death had resulted from either groups activity, as threatening as some acts were.
After McVeigh a new law too. These laws trammeled up the less culpable with the more, and the innocent as well.
Not to say not to worry. These right-wingers are a global threat and they have networked already with each other. QAnon influence on the rise too. Ireland, England, France, Germany.

There are definately more dangerous organized groups to take down.

(57,073 posts)Not sure, but in my non-lawyer opinion, every person who entered Capitol should be charged with murders of the 3 dead police officers & others who died as a result.
If it had been a bank robbery... is my train of thought.

And charges need to be felonies!
No more legal gun ownership OR VOTING!

(57,073 posts)You're right. It sure will follow them & make their lives a living hell, as it well should!
I would never employ someone who behaved that way!
Budi
(15,325 posts)That would be a big red flag right there.
It'd affect the rest of my life too.
Voting, home loans, travel, jobs, trustabiity ..
Yikes!
Although, those these terrorists would attract would likely take behavior as a badge of honor...until no job, no mortgage, etc.

(25,201 posts)They're scary....
Also the Proud and Boogaloo Boys...
The oath keepers, are the ones I really want. They have the ability to undermine elections.....They also provoke BLM...Threaten to show up at polling sites...Recruit from the military...They're basically a bunch of Timothy McVeigh wannabes....
emmaverybo
(8,144 posts)bit to call BLM a terrorist group. Think if BLM or GLBT or reproductive rights protestors get held responsible for arson, looting, some crazy thing these movements dont endorse happening. A store fire spreads to an apt, building and a tenant dies.
There are elderly Weather Underground members still imprisoned today. People in the anti-war movement who were persecuted and blackballed.
One persons freedom fighter is anothers terrorist.
Id reserve the max charges for those who planned, attempted, or carried out violence. Though yes, I see the legal point.
