General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI literally got 20 seconds into today's "Morning Joe" and turned it off.
Mika did her trademarked deep concern, constipated wincing, addressing Biden's meeting with the 10 Republicans...she made a statement like "He promised unity, isn't there some kind of compromise he can make to keep his promise..."
The MEETING kept his promise, and they asked to cut $400 out of the next round of stimulus checks. That's NOT a "compromise," that's holding back money from people who need it after corporations and millionaires experienced a windfall of profits during the pandemic.
So thanks but no thanks, Mika.

(630 posts)and no media blitz a la the ACA is going to change that. People feel this crisis every day, the Republicans are in an impossible position and they know it. I'm sure there's a meaningful concession the WH can make, but there's no reason to weaken the response when over 60% of voters want something done and done through reconciliation if necessary (recent polling).

(20,629 posts)forced to watch the opening segment from Rachel's show last night, where she laid out in beautiful detail how his side used this same play over and over again during the Obama administration. They would drag out negotiations forever, forcing the Democrats to water things thing down to the point of barely effective, and then refuse to cast a single vote for it, allowing Democrats to take the full amount of blame.

(2,146 posts)the GOP kind of forgot who was VP for Obama. And who is VP now.
I see a pattern of negotiation emerging for Biden. He lays out a plan and gives the GOP a chance to respond / counter. When they respond with sandbagging, stalling, lies, ridiculous add ons, he simply moves on without them. He gave them a chance and they blew it. They still think they are in power and they can tell Biden what to do. LOL.

(6,815 posts)Their condescending comeback of less than 31% of the original proposal was an insult to Biden and every one who voted for him. It wasn't even a serious reply. I think Biden has permission from all corners to steamroll right over their attempts at relevance.

(373 posts)Are Republicans, the ones who are glad Trump is gone, going to revert to type?
Watch as Moscow Mitch remakes his public image by criticizing the Qanon lady, etc. Watch as Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, etc. whine about how much things cost, while ordinary people suffer. Watch Scarborough and other Republicans stake out their traditional roles.
The monster is bigger than just Trump.

(18,486 posts)and Secretary Napolitano for the DHS report warning that military veterans were being groomed and radicalized by white supremacists to launch just the kind of insurgency we're seeing now. He carried on about how this was racist, attacking the military, etc., practically spewing spittle with outrage and indignation. He viciously attacked President Obama and his administration, failing to note that this report was prepared during the Bush Administration. And he has never once since even admitted, much less apologized for his take, even as he now carries on about how awful it is that white supremacists trained by the military have launched an insurgency against the U.S. government.
It's bad enough that he and Mika criticize Trump as if they had nothing to do with his rise to power. But this is beyond the pale. And until he acknowledges his own role in dismissing and even helping to cover up the growing threat of white supremacist violence in this country, I have no use for him.
On Morning Joe, Scarborough also said, I just ask this question to my Democratic friends out there -- and I'm serious about this -- what would you have said if George Bush, [former Bush adviser] Karl Rove, and the head of Homeland Security had issued a report warning about left-wing radicals wanting to blow up America? ... t is frightening. In fact, DHS did issue an assessment on January 26, concluding that a number of emerging trends point to leftwing extremists maturing and expanding their cyber attack capabilities over the next decade with the aim of attacking targets in the United States. Indeed, in response to a similar claim by conservative radio host Roger Hedgecock, CNN homeland security correspondent Jeanne Meserve reported during the April 14 edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight: In fact, in January, there was a warning about left-wing extremists. It was issued by the Obama administration but both reports were begun under President Bush. https://www.mediamatters.org/morning-joe/scarborough-ignores-bush-fbi-report-claim-obama-administration-stoking-fear

The strange thing is its usually the same people posting this disapproval. I dont get why they watch either.

(13,918 posts)$600 had already happened, passed by republicans at the point the promise that electing two democrats in Georgia would ensure that $2000 checks would go out immediately happened. Which makes it an arguable point
In a world where perceptions matter, a world where we KNOW that every MSM news agency is looking for any little thing to beat up Dems and Biden and reduce trust in government, its an unfortunate handout to those forces.
OnDoutside
(19,952 posts)who was going to block the first Bill, saying $600 was too small, that it should be $2000. That's when the Democrats jumped on it and backed bringing it up to $2000. It simply was never $600 and $2,000.
