Federal health officials said Monday that most of the people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far are women, but they do not have data on the race or ethnicity of nearly half of the first nearly 13 million Americans to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in a release of its first comprehensive look at the state of the nationwide vaccine campaign, says that nationwide, 63% of those vaccinated were women and 55% were over 50 years old. The agency's researchers issued a pair of reports examining the demographics of those vaccinated nationwide through January 14 and the rollout of the shots in long-term care facilities.
Among the data that the CDC's examination had been able to gather on race and ethnicity, 60% of those vaccinated identified as non-Hispanic White.
The data skews whiter, older, and more female than the general population, though the CDC's researchers cautioned that so, too, did the groups first prioritized for the shots.

I was on a zoom meeting yesterday with several dozen retired Steelworker union members. About 90% African American. We had an infectious disease specialist from Rush Hospital as our speaker. He was attacked for pushing the vaccine because it was the same as the Tuskegee experiment. They also said the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which has less effectiveness than the other two would be given to blacks and whites would be given the vaccines which were 95% effective.

(9,580 posts)There were tons of people there, but I got in and out in less than an hour. I have been very impressed with the vaccine process here in Lexington, KY. Went to the website, filled out a health form online, heard back within a day, and had an appointment. Easy peasy. 2nd vaccination scheduled for 02/23. Saw lots of men, too, and POC, but this was for people with underlying health issues/age factors.
And didn't feel a thing!
