BloombergSenate GOP leader Mitch McConnell took the rare step of weighing in on an internal conflict among House Republicans, praising Representative Liz Cheney for her deep convictions and courage as she faces attacks from former President Donald Trumps allies.
Cheney, the third-ranking House GOP leader, has come under fire for her vote to impeach the former president as well as her sharp criticism of his words and actions.
Liz Cheney is a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them, McConnell said in a statement. She is an important leader in our party and in our nation. I am grateful for her service and look forward to continuing to work with her on the crucial issues facing our nation.
McConnells backing of Cheney is clear sign of the struggle within the Republican Party over how much influence Trump will continue to exert even after he lost the White House to Democrat Joe Biden and the GOP lost control of the Senate. Trumps actions in stoking the mob that stormed the Capitol last month, for which he was impeached by the U.S. House for an unprecedented second time, has divided Republicans in a way that few of the political battles of the last four years did.

(25,816 posts)1. McConnell seems intent on restoring the GOP to "sanity".
Calling out Greene and backing Cheney shows him edging away from the madness of the
current right. However, McConnell himself has plenty to answer for, even if it's just the old-
fashioned repub grift and graft.

McConnell says Greene is a cancer - she snaps back at him that the real cancer is the weak republican that only knows how to lose gracefully. It's about to get ugly fast....

how much of this bullshit they're spewing do they actually believe (a secret Jewish space laser? seriously?) and how much is just grandstanding for their followers.
I really have to wonder if they get together for a drink and laugh hysterically at the bullshit they're spewing.

That's all it took.
