"Do you even know who the fuck I am, you idiot?" Herschmann snapped back.
"Yeah, you're Patrick Cipollone," Byrne said.
"Wrong! Wrong, you idiot!"
...
Every judge is corrupt, she (Syndey Powell) claimed. We can't rely on them. The White House lawyers couldn't believe what they were hearing. "That's your argument?" a stunned Herschmann said. "Even the judges we appointed? Are you out of your fucking mind?"
....
Byrne, wearing jeans, a hoodie and a neck gaiter, piped up with his own conspiracy: "I know how this works. I bribed Hillary Clinton $18 million on behalf of the FBI for a sting operation."
Herschmann stared at the eccentric millionaire. "What the hell are you talking about? Why would you say something like that?" Byrne brought up the bizarre Clinton bribery claim several more times during the meeting to the astonishment of White House lawyers.
...
"How exactly are you going to do this?" an exasperated Herschmann asked again, later in the conversation. Newman again cited the 2018 executive order, which prompted Herschmann to question out loud whether she was even a lawyer.
Then Byrne chimed in: "There are guys with big guns and badges who can get these things." Herschmann couldn't believe it. "What are you, three years old?" he asked.
...
Herschmann was primed to brawl and ready to dump on Powell. It had been a long day.
"Rudy," he said, turning to Giuliani, "Sidney was just in the Oval telling the president you don't know what the fuck you're doing. Right, Sidney?" He turned to Powell: "Why don't you tell Rudy to his face?"
"Eric, really it's not appropriate," Trump replied curtly.

It would do Beria proud.

(8,045 posts)but it did take some major liberties with the actual history.
But as entertainment it was superb. And it did I think pretty accurately capture the absurdity and cynicism of the regime, and the sheer terror it inspired among everyone in Soviet society, from bottom to top.
My favorite line: "See, we work better as a committee." Might not be an exact quote but it captures the spirit.

(8,045 posts)Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't seen the movie--stop reading here.
Okay:
I love the scene where he razzes Nikita K. "You should see your face!"
Other great lines (and forgive me if these aren't exact):
"I'm smiling, but I'm fucking furious."
"Speak up Georgie, we're staging a coup here."
"If you want something done, call the army."
So many great scenes in that movie.
The woman who plays Svetlana is also brilliant. Really, the whole cast was just so good. And wasn't it Michael Palin as Molotov?
Brilliant.

(8,045 posts)"Yes, but Uncle Nikki has to act fast, or Uncle Nikki will be dead. Yes."
Molotov in actual fact was a cold blooded monster. His one great moment was standing up to Ribbentrop, I think in late 1940 or early 1941. Molotov was in Berlin to meet with Hitler. He was at some reception and Ribbentrop pulled out a treaty for him to sign. Then the air raid siren sounded, and everyone had to adjourn to a bunker.
Ribbentrop kept insisting the British were finished, and so the Soviets should join Germany and try to take Afghanistan and India. The British Empire is doomed. England has lost the war.
To which Molotov finally replied, "If that's the case, why are we in this shelter, and whose bombs are those which are falling now?"
In a previous meeting Molotov so angered Hitler with his talk back that some historians think that was the moment Hitler definitely decided on Barbarosa.
Anyway, sorry for the lecture. For personal reasons I'm steeped in this history, which is another reason why I so loved "Death of Stalin."
"See? Old Molotov still has some scheming left in him!"
