The Senate voted 86 to 13 on Tuesday to confirm Buttigieg as Bidens transportation secretary. The 39-year-old became the first openly gay person ever to win confirmation to a Cabinet position.
The nomination sailed through the Senate Commerce Committee last week on a 21-to-3 vote.
Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, Ind., and a former rival to Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination, has pledged to get to work immediately on Bidens agenda of rebuilding the nations infrastructure.
Ahead of the vote by the full Senate on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that Buttigieg is committed to working with members from both sides to improve rail and transit, highways, and more in rural communities, urban centers, and everywhere in between.

(7,282 posts)I always forget about this guy. Someone mentioned his name on DU yesterday in the context of renouncing the TrumpliCon party association and go Independent. I'll take this one as sign that's not close to being likely.
I guess, all these other clowns don't think Transportation and Infrastructure is important to their states,
Ok, then. Maybe Buttigieg should put their states at the bottom of the list of priorities.

(23,980 posts)I would be interested to hear their reasoning.
I think Cassidy is an MD. IIRC, I heard him interviewed about the pandemic, and while he himself supports wearing masks, he absolutely could NOT bring himself to say that it would be setting a good example for Trump to wear one.

(11,563 posts)He is steadfast, and incredibly smart. He will find ways to do things that need to be done.
Further, I'm glad of this opportunity for him. It's a great way for him to get out on the national stage and gain some experience and cred in national politics.
Anyone who could and would learn Norwegian to enable him to read the works of a fairly obscure novelist is someone with too much potential for the country to let go.
